Marcus and I have now finally met! It wasn’t without a little struggling, as Marcus got stuck in a snow storm on the highway between Gothenburg and Stockholm - but hopefully he will agree our meeting was well worth it!

Ok I have to admit that Marcus and I were a little stunned when were finshed with the ballad “Soul to the World“. I was stunned because I had never sung a ballad before, and Marcus because it actually sounded pretty cool (we agreed it did! :O ) . My first instinct was to start working on another heavy rocking tune, like the first one (Historical Failure) - there’s usually only one or two ballads per album, right?

This is a guitar site after all - and everybody knows ballads are a little nerdy! So - today we have the pleasure to give you some macho solo leads. (Actually Marcus and I discussed this - and we came to the conslusion that ballads on the contrary are quite cool - but I have to write stuff that catches your eye in this blog, know what I mean?! )

Ok - so let’s continue the tale of this power-ballad!

I haven’t sung any ballad previously - so when Marcus told me “go for the thrashy voice, it will sound cool ” - I didn’t really know what to make of it!

My first instinct was to sing clean and nicely, however I realised quickly that singing “clean and nicely” is quite hard to do, when you can’t sing!

Now here is a little illustration of how unexpected things can be when you are composing music for the gmc blog!

As you probably know - we had a little “dip” with our last tune (”fast song idea“). We couldn’t really be specific about why the tune didn’t feel right - we both agreed the the ideas we had were cool. Still it just didn’t cut it.

Hmmm. If I told you this was tricky last time…it’s even trickier now! Either way - we have got some new stuff for you.

When presenting the riffs of this unnamed fast song - Marcus had an idea about a lyrical theme with the keywords “car chase, thief, crime, police“.

To me this sounded perfect along with Marcus’ speed riffs, so I started drafting on a theme which would involve some kind of car chase. To make it a little evil and heavy metal I added the theme of DEATH! (It always works - really!)
