Rory Gallagher's Acoustic Style

Hey all! I've been trying to learn the way Rory Gallagher plays the acoustic guitar (best example is his track "Barley and Grape Rag"), where in he kind of picks the high notes with his right hand fingers and alternates bass notes with his thumb, I believe he's using a thumb pick. It's similar, if not the same, to what Steve Howe does at "The Clap". Does anyone know what this style is called? And are there any lessons here to pick that style up? Thanks for any replies!

Well, hi all! I'm Joaquin, from Uruguay, been playing for almost 6 years now. I play a variety of styles, mostly blues based (classic/hard/prog rock, heavy metal, the very blues). I'm not that much of a gearhead, I'm more of the one-guitar-at-a-time guy. I have an Epi LP, an Ibanez acoustic 12-string and that's about it (oh, and a Wah pedal and a flanger, and the amp of course). My technique isn't quite advanced, not much of a shredder since it's something I always tried to avoid (becoming a robot), but hopefully I'll learn some new tricks here .

As to how I joined, I had been lurking around the site for quite some time and following Kris' lessons on UG, so it was a matter of time until I gave in . There were so many lessons I wanted to learn yet I only got to see the first part that it drove me nuts! Right now I'm struggling with the SRV had a little Strat lesson, but I thought I'd stop by and say hello to everyone
