Ok I see, maybe it could still be useful for background choirs only singing vowels (no words). Maybe you could give AI a guitar melody or midi, and have it sound like a Queen choir.

Hey Vintage68 - awesome to see you on the forum!

On most desktop (computer) browsers you only need to unmute once.

But Safari and ios (iPhone, iPad etc) has a "sound protection" in place which is why you need to constantly unmute when you navigate to a new lesson.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it (to my knowledge).

Amazing, I assume it would be possible to give AI an original melody and have it perform background choirs over an original track? I have to try this!

I think all three sounded awesome!! Very well done!

Would you like to share the process with us? I have no idea how I would go about doing something like this.

Wow this is quite an achievement Gert! 🤩 If anybody missed it, Gert and Monica has been working on hard on alternate picking in this thread.

And as you will be able to tell as well, progress has been spectacular! Under Monica's guidance Gert has been practicing within his comfort speed from scratch:

..and we can now see the result.

Gert, the technique you display here is precise, reliable and efficient. It will serve you well regardless of where your musical adventure leads you. Congratulations!

I agree that vibrato could be a little more consistent - but you are still very close to the type of vibrato Darius uses in the lesson.

I can also see that during transition to the more complex licks or the sustained notes, your picking technique gets less precise. That's natural since your picking is not yet completely engraved into muscle memory - so your perfomance will be negatively affected by 'multi-tasking'.

Keep up the amazing work - it's a 9 from me!

I was very happy to see a new take from you Nadeem 🤗

I think for most part your timing is very good here - which means you won half the battle!

The other half would be pitch - and here you need more work. The good news is you nail many of those bends perfectly - which tells me you have great pitch hearing and you just need to get more consistent.

The starting bend at 00:04 is off, which is a pity since after that come many good ones.

Also at 00:11, I am wondering if you release vibrato back to the starting pitch? Because to me it sounds like you are applying vibrato to a note which is already bent slightly out of tune. (it could also be a tuning / intonation issue)

All in all - this is an extremely promising take and it feels like you are just a threshold experience away from reaching a new level!

Keep up the killer work, it's an 8 from me!

QUOTE (Spenser @ Feb 27 2024, 01:15 AM) *
i don't know any scales yet but i know all the notes on the guitar if that's useful, i really love progressive metal and groove metal like mastadon, gojira, machine head and pantera laugh.gif

It's awesome that you know all the note names on the guitar Spenser!

If you don't know any scales yet, I would advise you first get familiar with the pentatonic scale. It is the most important scale in rock (almost any genre of rock btw!):

Once you master it - you can easily make it sound brutal by adding a few notes, for example a personal favorite of mine is what I like to call the Dorian b5:

ALso Monica, gave you some killer advice as to how you can approach starting to learn scales.

Hey Spenser,

This is a very cool topic!

Learning how to use *any* is pretty much impossible since there so many.

But learning the most common ones, ie the major (and its seven modes), as well as maybe harmonic minor and melodic minor scales. Is not only doable but a cool long term goal.

Since the scales have seven modes each, and there are twelve keys - we are already talking about:

(7 * 12) * 3 = 252 scales / keys

Before giving you more specific advice- would you like to tell me what music you are into and if you know any scales yet? 🤗

Just writing to doublecheck that you haven't missed Javier's killer Jam Room's series!

In today's livestream I exclusively used the three backings from this lesson:

So in other words instead of playing these notes:

You would play these notes:

NB Easiest is to play this shape from the 12th fret

The lesson states it uses the Bm (minor) scale + some extra notes. So if you want to play it in E, you will have to move the entire scale shape from the 7th fret (B note on low E string) to the 12th fret.

Yes! You can move this one up from the 7th to the 12 fret and play it in E minor. It’s a great way to start using these ideas in your jams.

You can probably also move some of the licks down to the open position (so fret 0).

Very cool you found this antique lesson 😁

I agree with Monica, however best would be if we could see your technique.

We really don’t want you to spend time relearning the wrong way 👊

I find it fascinating that a hollow body works with hi-gain tones, and this seems to be another great example of that. I have a feeling it could open up new sounds.

Very cool! Yeas I also always wanted a semi hollow - and I can agree about EVH necks being comfy. My wolfgang Standard has my all time favorite neck profile 👌👌👌

Hey Rok what an amazing surprise - it's been a very long time indeed 🤩

It's just crazy how the years fly by - makes you realise you life is just a second in the universe...I should probably quit my home made metaphors 😅

Any how I wish you could have seen the smile on my face when I saw you here again!

What are you looking to learn now?

I will get back to you via pm when I have fixed your old user!

I think the vocals sit much better in this mix, I have also added many small tweaks:

Hey guys -

Ken and I decided to give this one a new shot and I have recorded some vocals over it.

I am very excited about it and really hope it can be made into a track which sounds cool from start to end.

I still need to warn you my vocals are very rusty and I am also struggling with fitting the different singing styles into the mix. Any help is welcome.

Artistic GMC

Easy dropping
Mucho gusto
Easy dropping
No Dinero

But when the door opens up
There’s no one to be found
For all those trenches have been filled
And the bomblets have been kicked in
But whose blood has been spilled?

I

I plan to keep improving the mix and also record "chorus" vocals at 00:34 and 01:15 but I think I need vocal coaching or something first 😅

If you have any suggestions, contributions or feedback - we're all ears!

Fantastic Gert - this is another brilliant example of how effective your work with Monica has been!

The big thing here is obviously how you cater for all of those details that make the difference - and in doing so you are attempting to play something that is way beyond a "level 3" lesson.

The one thing that will take you closer to sounding like the original is a consistent vibrato. The good news is you already do this well - when you have time to think about it. However when there is much going on at the same time - vibrato needs to be handled by muscle memory. This will come with time if you just keep working on, and using, vibrato.

It's a 9 from me - keep up the fantastic work!
