Hi Zen!
Welcome to the MTP of February!

I will tell you the same of Lester:

Well I've been asking about the REc program of singing MTP and we have to record something at the end of the month to post it on that forum. So you'll have a month to prepair it, but it couldn't be a cover. Kris told me the mtp program should use gmc lessons (only the main part) as a basis for rec takes. So I will tell you wich will be your Rec.

So to do the assigments you have to record the other parts of the lessons, like video 1 , 2, not the main part. ok?

Well: your 1st assignment of February: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...inging-lesson5/
I know you did it, but,,,, you have to do it this time with your guitar. Remember this site is for guitarrist and I must teach singing for guitarrist so, I want to you do it playing your guitar at the same time wink.gif .. what do you think?

Remember to record only video 1 and 2 not the main.

good luck!!

QUOTE (BM @ Jan 21 2010, 09:36 PM) *
Hi,

I have a question. This is the first time I've left a question on something other than guitar so I hope I am clear with it.

The other day I was trying to cover one of my favorite songs: Crashed (by Daughtry). Like lots of people I sing with the music playing and I always thought I was on key or that I sounded pretty good. But when I recorded myself singing the song I discovered I wasn't very good...at all.

Seeing as I now know I need to work on my singing, what can I do to improve my singing in that style? (Like Chris Daughtry)

Thank you for all your advice

Connor L

Hi Connor!

Well, every little thing it helps to develop a great voice. Did you see my lesson on this site? did you try someone?
put on the searcher my name and you'll see a lot of singing lessons.
Do you want to know something special about singing?? or you are talking in general?

Well, I knew you will not have any problem with harmonies, I cannot understand the first harmony, cause i coudn't hear your lower voice well.
I love the last harmony you did, when I sing the lower pitch and you in the high pitch, I think is because the colors of our voices... Congratulations! you passed!

About the Rec: Did you hear the old version of "broken" and compares to the new one???? Wow !! I can hear the attitud now! it's better! YEAH!
But i can hear the nasal sound there.. OPEN YOUR MOUTH to sing! please!! hahahah,,, the rest is perfect, i love the new version!

about the creep song, I going to ask you to feel more confedent there, is like you want to control every note!,,, dont do that!! try to feel a rockstar on you! enjoy it!!!!! COME ON!! biggrin.gif

Hi Lester!
The 3rd assignment about resonance was so good, I LOVE IT, you have a vibrato there that I love. biggrin.gif Be careful with the high notes, never do that notes again without air, and don't be afraid to push a little bit your diaphragm to help using more air.
... but in the improvisation dry.gif ....Sorry man but...I was waiting more from you and that's because you can!
...you could have done a lot of thing. I mean, you have a great voice and I know that I can ask you for more than that. mellow.gif It was fine,,, yeah, but I put the improvisations there to enjoy the exercise, and free you mind!!...So do it!... enjoy it! try different things!,,, know your voice and your limits. smile.gif

you did an exelent job anyway.

About REC: Yes, we can do for every month a song, of course,, you have all the month to practice adding the 4 assignments, and tu can post a song, and I'll do a feedback about that wink.gif

4th assignment december: : http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-lessons/breaks-lesson/

Your next assignment is about breaks.... is for that high notes I told you.. relax while you are doing that, make the break happen. ask me if you have doubts...

Good luck

Hi MickeM!!!

Im so happy you return !

Well, your first assignment is good, It was weird to see you doing while driving, it was so funny!
But I think it helps to let you sing more relax, because you was doing another thing at the same time. Great!!!

Your voice was great, I prefer the method of learning to sing in that way, than the perfect pitch always with squeezing your throat. God job!!!

I`ll be waiting the second assignment!

Thank you!

Hi Zen

I'm so proud! wow! Such a big difference! Congratulation!

The pitch in the scale is perfet!

im so proud of you! great!

What a surprise the harmony in 3rd! great job! and the improvisations are excelent....

and speaking about improvisations here is your 3RD ASSIGNMENT OF JANUARY: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...singing-lesson/

I think it will be easy for you...but will see...

about the vocal Rec: I decided to not putting titles there, cause the voice it's not like a guitar that you can add difficulty so easy. In singing, perhaps you can add some topics of difficulty and other person can add to your voice another type of difficulty, you know what I mean?
So I That's why is too important for me individual classes, like this MTP. So I prefer just having a vocal Rec.

And I agree to add some improvisations in your song, you don't have any difficultry there! wink.gif

I'll do a video for you to explain this 3 issues:

- Loosing air - continuing to use breathing exercise to control this
- cutting the sound
- nasal sound - Need to open my mouth more while singing to fix this.

star to practice the new assignment and the Rec!

good luck

Zen!

Thank you for your videos!!! biggrin.gif

About the lesson of Resonance, remember that I told you about losing air?... well in this lesson you are cutting the sound and this is not the answer for losing air. When you are singing naturally you not cuting the sounds. I'll do a video for you to explain more about this topic.

And Congratulations for all the improvisations you did! smile.gif you created a lot of beautiful songs there! I love it a lot! Maybe next time you can add lyrics on them! BUT! you have to open your mouth a little bit more. The sounds have to flow outside your body. and be careful about nasal sound! that you can fix only with open your mouth!

Zen you are right! We need a REC part here too. So, you could prepare the first song you showed me: " Broken". Cause in that song you are losing a lot of air there. So could be a perfect REC don't you think? and then we can see the difference.

JANUARY ASSIGNMENT NUMBER 2
: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...singing-lesson/

Let's see how you rock! using that scale.
Please I need you practice first the scale ( video 1 and 2) and then the improvisation (Main).

Good luck!

Excelent Job Zen!!

See the difference?? now you are singing notes! yeah!
About the improvisation, its ok! don't worry.. takes a lot of time!... for me, your improvisation was excelent, this exercise is for free your singing...free your mind and learn to enjoy to sing.
you pass the assignment of breathing! Congratulation!!!!!!!!!!!

About the assignment of Resonance: don't want to sing the "H" ( this video will explain to you)

Your routine will be your assignments, I always prefer 10 minutes a day than an hour only one day. Yes, the order is correct. Remain about the fix things, and concentrate. You can start with 10 min the first 2 days, then with 15 min per week and then 20 minutes, NO MORE THAN THAT.

Your next assignment is this: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...inging-lesson5/

we'll star to manager your register.... good luck!

Lester.. if hurts ... it's wrong!
Remember you have to add power to your voice with your diaphragm, That's why I send to you exercises of breathing...

I'll do a question for you.... when you are pushing something heavy don't you Grunt? if you do it.... do you feel that you are damaging your vocal cords?? Try it! i'm sure you don't feel anything wrong...

Or when you and your family are shopping and your little sister goes in front of you, and then you want to see something to buy so you stoped, but she don't noticed that. So you call her in loud, and tell her... COME HERE! It hurts that? Of course not!

USE YOUR DIAPHRAGM wink.gif not your Throat!... your throat can only produce notes not force.. ok?

Hi Lester!

I saw your video of concert with The Young Jesus people!!! I love the song! lovely!...Nice choir... biggrin.gif
about your voice: I feel the same thing when you show me the first song.... mellow.gif
I feel like you have a kind of coyness while singing... Im sure you have more power on that voice dry.gif , just try to relax while singing and let it flow! smile.gif
You have a god ear, so don't worry about the pitch, cause it will be fine wink.gif . Try to concentrate in singing projecting the voice towards the horizon. I think that you have to discover a sound more hotly in your voice. Without shivers...

This video is for you... ( sorry about my english) Hope it helps!

Your voice is not constant, cause you don't have a good control of your breathing...Your exhale must to be constant so the sound will be...
try to practice exercises of breathing. You need to train your diaphragm.

try to practice your assignment again with those new tips, then we'll see what will happen! wink.gif

Your next assignment is this: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...inging-lesson4/
It will be a little difference with your shivers if you practice the last assignment again and then this one.

Hope it helps, be more confidence! you have a great voice! Feel free and relax while singing ! Enjoy it!

wink.gif

Extra homework

How to breathe correctly?

Step one

Good posture:
First, stand up straight, with your feet shoulder width apart. Roll your head around to ease any tension in your neck. Then hold your head level, with your chin parallel to the ground, not tipped up or down. Let your shoulder blades slide toward the centre of your back so that they're back and down. If you do this, your chest will be open instead of collapsed, which is just what we want.
Slumping, or ever rounding your shoulders forward slightly, partly collapses the upper rib cage and keeps the muscles between the ribs from being able to expand to accommodate the lungs as they fill with air. What we are looking for is the physical ease that comes from good alignment.
Now bend your knees slightly (just relax and unlock them) and tuck your pelvis under. This slight adjustment helps ensure that the diaphragm can function at maximum capacity.

Step two

Inhale:
Put your hand on your stomach, with your middle finger or your belly button. All the action that follows should take place in the space between the base of your ribs and just below your belly button. Keeping your shoulders in that beautiful, open position, back and down, imagine that your stomach is a balloon, and as you inhale, let it fill with air. Concentrate on filling this "balloon" only. And when it's full, blow the air gently out through your mouth. Don't feel alarmed if you see only a small movement of your stomach. When you quit pushing breath in and just let it flow.
In a very short time, your inhales should be free on chest and shoulder action, and you ought to be able to inhale without stomach tension. Don't worry if you get a little light-headed at first. That's because you're bringing more air into your system than you're used to and possibly hyperventilating. This will pass, and your body will appreciate all the life-giving oxygen you're feeding it.

Step three

Exhale:
This is supposed to be the easy part, the release. As we exhale, the body is designed to allow the stomach to fall easily back to its normal position. It doesn't take muscle to exhale, just relaxation. But when we exhale, many of us use force. We tighten. We make it a hundred times harder than it's supposed to be, thinking, mistakenly, that to get the volume we want, and to hit the high notes, the best thing to do is to fire out voices out cannon.
As you exhale, keep your hand resting on your stomach, and be conscious of when your muscles tighten. You can massage your muscles softly as you exhale to remind them to relax. And if need be, as you're learning, you can also help your stomach in by pushing gently with your hand, which creates less pressure than using your abdominal muscles. Remember, the goal is not to pull anything in. Just let your stomach fall to its neutral position.

I feel your voice great!.The humming is perfect , but only a thing I want to tell you. Try to be more relax while you are singing. The voice have to flow freely... smile.gif I don't here that fluency.. that's what I mean with "contained", like no fluency in your voice...

Well congrats!..you passed

This is your new assignment: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-less...inging-lesson3/

only two exercises, the first one for control the air while singing, and the pitch. The second one, to improvise something.

ps: You have a week to practice and then you have to post the video of the second assignment only, but keep practicing all.

good luck!
