Knew you would give me a good answer Muris! wink.gif

Weird that they call the first chord Dm9 on the tab you download with the backing track, very confusing... but now u mention its mixolydian at the start I can hear it.. do you do most of ur analysis by just listening?

Definatley can play over this much more smoothly now.. no longer hitting notes that I knew didnt quite fit so thanks a lot! Could you advise any other backing tracks with some cool changes in them?

Well yeah, mostly it's just ear that helps me, it comes with time and lot of transcribing using ear only. smile.gif
I would have to think more to give you some another example of cool BT
but you might wanna check other BT available at BluesJamTracks, they have plenty nice ones.
After that we can discuss them all to se what we can play over then,
not a problem and you're very welcome. smile.gif

True, playing on clean sound is not the same as on distorted sound,
it takes better control and everything. smile.gif

Thanks Muris.. hope your tour is going well. saw pics on facebook. smile.gif

Yep.. I am not sure exactly. I noticed another instructor gave me the same feedback some months ago when I was doing a REC. As its faster, perhaps I am leaving the string too early.. if I don't I will mute the string or something.. so will need to explore the correct way. any tips?

Well, staccato worked pretty nicely for this last take imo
but staccato is not for everything, true.
So maybe you need to focus more on co-ordination between your hands.
Once again, it worked nicely for this take but if I notice it in future takes
I will point it out for sure, no worries.

Give me some time to post you next weekly assignment. smile.gif

Hi Muris

Here is assignment week 1
[attachment=18917:MTP_nov_week_1.MP3]

Good job!!
You played it very powerful with good control, nice work. smile.gif
Just try to export click together with guitar sound so I could hear them both,
no need to do it for this one but for future takes, all good.

So you wanna try Modern Blues Soloing for November MTP and REC?
Sounds good and here's BT for you. smile.gif

Nice one!

Regarding staccato, you think you played it too short?

Hi. smile.gif

The very first chord is not actually Dm9,
Guthrie plays D mixolydian over it and if it was Dm9 then
D mixo would not work that good, that chord is more like C/D or something,
3rd is not that well articulated so you can go with D Mixo, D Dorian or even mix 2 of those.
Bmaj7 is part of Dm key/scale (6th degree) so it would be D Aeolian or Bb Lydian,
what works easier for you to follow.
Then comes Gm7/9 and that one is a bit tricky to figure out and here's why.
Naturally it appears as another chord from Dm key (it's 4th degree in a key of Dm)
but the chord that comes AFTER is Ebmaj7 and that's key of Gm (or Eb Lydian if you prefer).
So over Gm chord you can continue playing D Aeolian, then easily switch to Gm scale
to prepare it for Gm scale that goes for Ebmaj7 chord.
Guthrie does that wisely tho, without too much accents on either Dm or Gm scale,
instead he plays Gm pentatonic mostly since Gm penta is included in both Dm and Gm scale.
After that the whole things repeats.
Regrading chromatic, it works cool with this kind of Fusion sound
but you have to be careful when, where and how to use it.
What most of the people do is that they connect 2 or more notes from scale using chromatic,
per example, D, E and F# notes from D Mixolydian might work and D, Eb, E, F and F# line,
A and B can be connected as A, Bb and B etc.
Its matter of experience to figure out what to use but after all it's your ear
that WILL tell you what works and what not.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Cheers.

Everything is ready to go, a mini bus is gonna transport us to Zagreb
and then we have few flights, Zagreb - Munich, Munich - Dubai and finally Dubai - Perth.
Sounds wicked but right now it's November 4th 7:20am
and we'll arrive in Perth on November 6th at 1am, local time of course
but still seems like a life time. biggrin.gif

Hey guys.

Well I noticed that the newest member of GMC was someone called Jason Nocera!!

Is the Jason we all know???

I truly hope he is, I left him a welcome message on his profile,
would be a bummer if it was someone else. laugh.gif

There's also DAW called Record from Propellerhead,
it's actually an upgraded Reason, upgraded to record audio as well
since regular Reason acts like midi sequencer only.
I haven't tried it still but I heard some good things about it,
plus you get full Reason with it which means TONS of sounds etc.

Some timing issues as I said in MTP and eventho I label it as Intermediate
I guess it's still quite tricky for many GMCers, time wise.
Good effort, keep it up. smile.gif

Ok, here's our topic for November,
I uploaded a GP file as our first weekly assignment,
it's some kind of rock-bluesy lick using pentatonic scale in few positions
with couple of bends etc, hope you'll find it interesting. smile.gif

And as for monthly (REC) lesson, is there a some lesson that you already considered trying
or would you like me to pick one for you?
