I'm pretty sure they often use E-Bows. It's the only device thats able to make sounds like that with ease. A Fernandes sustainer wont get you the same type of sound. |

Very cool ideas Trond! I realize that what I am going to say now will be pure to blasphemy for a true metalhead - but personally I would love to hear this kind of intro riff with a steady and standard 4/4 beat (without the "rolling" kick drum). I think there is a good groove potential in the riff - and if you could somehow make it more dance-metal (again sorry for blasphemy) I would personally be completely sold! Thats actually a really good idea! It's the whole beat of the song that hinders me from progressing on it. I think i have a plan now |

Ok I have added some more stuff (in red) and tweaked verse 2 a little. ------------------------------------ [attachment=18983:shun_rough_draft4.mp3] Your image burns my heart Your image has burnt a hole in my heart No more I taste the seed No more I feel the need No more I ache to heal No more I can conceal I live just like you preach My sight would raise the dead Save me from my hell... 'Cause you have burned my heart Your image has turned into stone Your image turns my heart into stone A thousand days from now I will leave you where you stand A fortress built for me Burnt down by bloody hands You gave me emptiness I give you nothingness Save me from my hell... 'Cause you burned my heart Forever shall the wounds of my soul incarcerate the image of my burning heart I live just like you preach My sight would raise the dead Save me from my hell... 'Cause you have burned my heart Heartburner ------------------------------------ All takes are unfortunately not keepers yet - but I would suggest we try mixing my vocals seriously now, to get an impression of how the end product will sound. Also this will inspire me to keep practicing/recording takes to fix the places we feel need improvement. (also we'll think a little more about the ending) If you agree - I would like to send you the files I have got so far! By the way I have had a chance to listen more to your solo now - and everybody should check it out as it features an awesome motive development, very well done! The 2nd verse had a much better flow to it now. Only thing that sounded a bit off was the change after the fortress line. And also, the 3rd chorus sounded so much more powerfull and clearer than the other 2. It also had impeccable timing! I'm eagerly awaiting the files for some mixing! |

It was the other way around with me. I thought that since i knew how to play guitar then Guitar Hero couldnt possibly be difficult. But, i soon learned that i seriously suck at Guitar Hero There's something about the timing of the notes thats just really alien to me. |

Hi guys I'm in desperate need for some help on this song i'm working on Been trying to figure out a suitable verse/chorus all weekend, but with no luck. So far i've got the first minute done. The verse (or anything similar) starts where the hihat plays alone. I've made the empty space short for this sample though. After the verse there's an idea for a followup section leading up to thee chorus. But, i'm stuck on the chorus too If anyone got any ideas, please share! Or record it

Thanks for the awesome comments guys - Trond's composition/arrangemt is killer! I was hoping to have advanced more on the song by now - but I have got a healthy dose of reality lately! New section marked in red: --------------- [attachment=18847:shun_rough_draft2.mp3] Your image burns my heart Your image has burnt a hole in my heart No more I taste the seed No more I feel the need No more I ache to heal No more I can conceal I live just like you preach My sight would raise the dead Save me from my hell... 'Cause you have burned my heart A thousand days from now I leave you where you stand A fortress built for me Burnt down by bloody hands You gave me emptiness I give you nothingness Save me from my hell... 'Cause you burned my heart --------------- A few comments - I had some problems coming up with a good vocal part for 2:35 - 2:42 if you still think we need something more there we could try making the drum beat more steady there. This could result in a further increase of intensity/climax, which might work well since the part before is like a build-up (to me). I absolutely love the part which starts at 3:11 - it's really cool and if you agree I suggest we keep it instrumental. In that case maybe it should be shortened down a little? (to keep a good flow) I just copy an pasted the chorus - my plan is to practice it some more and then try to re-record it (the first chorus as well). That was just too cool! The lyrics on the 2nd verse was awesome, and i especially liked the delivery of the 1st line. With a different timing on the 2nd line, and maybe adding a word or two (if thats possible), i think it would fit perfectly. How abuot some vocals on the synthpart before verse 2? I had an idea for some melodic vocal-harmonies on the 3.11 section, but might work just as good keeping it instrumental. I'll see if i can trim it down |

I dont haev much experience with either Music Man's or Lagunas.. But there's something really appealing about the Greg Howe Laguna. Beautiful guitar. |

I actually did it like that first - I had yet a line where there now is silence (so in total four lines where there now is two). But I felt there wasn't any breathing room - there was too much Kris all over the place. In the version below I have thrown in a subtle choir thing in between these [pre chorus] lines - it should probably be mixed higher but would then need some eq work and maybe a cool reverb/delay effect to make it sound like a "scream on a cliff" or similar. ( I have improved the vocal takes in the version below - at least enough for us to decide if my vocal ideas fit the tune. If you guys think they do - I'll continue to work on the next verse. When we are finished with the tune and still think that there are some takes that need to be improved - I have higher odds of nailing them (because I have had more practicing time by then). [attachment=18780:shun_rough_draft1.mp3] (Lyrics are the same) Your image burns my heart Your image has burnt a hole in my heart No more I taste the seed No more I feel the need No more I ache to heal No more I can conceal I live just like you preach My sight would raise the dead Save me from my hell... 'Cause you have burned my heart The subtle choir thing worked like a charm! It filled the void perfectly. Simple and effective. I also liked the way you delivered the first two lines over the first version. First verse sounds better too allaround. And i especially like the delivery of the conceal line! Right now I'm just annoyed that the mp3 ends right before verse 2 starts |

Great review and awesome pedal! Somebody told me a while ago about the existence of this pedal and said that it's like a magical pedal... I've never tried it but I get the free demo of the soft right now! Have you compared the pedal result with the plug in result? Is it the same or at least similar? I've used the plugin, and it's almost identical to the pedal. |

Here's my review of the Dual Resistafier made by R3FX. http://www.r3fx.com/ Overview: The R3FX Dual Resistafier is a hi-gain distortion pedal designed to have a similar tone to a Dual Rectifier. I'm not really sure how well it comes close to emulating a real Rectifier, but what i do know is that this pedal rocks! It has all the ingredients of a good higain distortion pedal should have: Clarity, punch, low noise and versatility. The version I ordered came with 2 channels with seperate gain controls and a channel switcher for easy switching between sounds. You can also order a one-channel version, but i think the 2 channel one gives you alot more versatility, and the difference in price isnt anything worth mentioning. On my version there's a Bi-Colored led which also displays which channel i'm currently on. Note: There arent any pictures in this review because there arent any real final-version pictures of the pedal as the design changes alot. Price: The standard version is priced at 150$, which is cheaper than alot of the pedals it punches a hole in. Take a look at http://www.r3fx.com/?page_id=24 for full pricelist and modifications possible. Quality: I havent looked inside the unit yet, but judging by the enclosure and switches it looks robust and solid. No low-grade plastic-parts to be seen. Controls: There's a bass, mid, treble, presence and volume controller in addition to the 2 gain controls. The controls do exactly what they are supposed to do and makes the pedal easy to finetune into your own sound. Design: The Dual Resistafier seems to go through alot of different designs and colors. Mine came in a cool-looking silver enclosure. Check the link under "customer support" for more on that. Customer Support: R3FX is a one-man company. The communication with Jim (the owner) has been top notch. Quick response, great service and he makes youtube demos of the each and every pedal before they are shipped out. I think all companies should do something similar when it comes to non-massproduced units like these. Me and audiopaal ordered one each, and you can watch the demo here. Conclusion: There's enough Metal in this little box for everyone! It's heavy, and it does it well. The lower-gain settings are more than useful too. But the pedal looses a small bit of it's distinctiveness when rolling back the gain. It still sounds great, just not fully as exciting. It's definetly worth looking into if your tired of the way your old distortion pedals sound. There's tons of different demos of the pedal on Jim's youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/jimosity I'm going to put up some unprocessed demos up soon, but in the meantine you can listen to my latest track, Shun I used the Dual Resistafier on the rhythm-tracks (but note, they are processed). Final score: 9.5/10 |

I've had Win7 running on dualboot since i got invited to the betatest-program, and i think it's allaround the best Windows yet. But still, i rarely use it since i had so much problems getting my soundcard (EMU Tracker Pre) and different VST/VSTi's to work properly in a DAW. So, i'm with Ivan on this one. Stick with XP 32bit for the time being. |

Certain singlecoils definetly have a tendency to be noisier than their humbucker counterparts. The singlecoil on my Ibanez made more hizz than sound when my computer screen was on. The problem sort of cured itself when i got an LCD |

Good job There's some problems though. Some of the bends could use some finetuning and some more vibrato would definetly spice it up. Also, i think the high E is slightly out of tune. But.. other than that i think it was very good |

Damn, and I dont have a needle Ive used my mothers earrings but nothing its stuck for good. Well I ll keep searching I may find something. I doubt it's stuck for good. The problem is more likely that the short remaining part of the string is curved over the saddle or curved in the area before it's visible ontop of the bridge. |
