Whats up everyone. I havn't been on the forum in a really long time, but it looks really good from what I've seen. Anyways, I've been looking for a new amp, been doing alot of research, and I've come up with a possible list. I thought I'd get some of the gear inclined people on hear to give me suggestions. Hear they are:

ENGL Powerball

ENGL Fireball

LANEY Vh100r

Laney GH100L

I'm looking for a really, really heavy amp that will be great for metal. So far I've been most impressed with the powerball, but it also has the highest pricetag. I also think that the gh100l would be great, but I'd probably have to boost it to get the sound I want. Both companies also have some amazing artists endorsed. ENGL: Iced Earth, Necrophagist, Marty Friedman, Nevermore. Laney: Opeth, Toni Iommi, Arch enemy. I've also heard that Mesa Boogie makes awesome amps (john Petrucci). But just give me your oppinions, thanks smile.gif

My honest opinion? You really can't go wrong. I've heard all four of them, wanted an ENGL and a Laney at times (still do sometimes..) and bought a Mesa. Again, you can't go wrong. They're all amazing amps, pick one at random biggrin.gif

Concidering that German and UK amps seem to be more expensive in the US - IMO - you'd probably be better off getting a Peavey XXX. Get more gain that mankind will ever need while saving a buck at the same time.

maybe consider a peavey 5150 or 6505, those amps can get VERY heavy and cost a little less then the ones you have listed

Man, I also have the same problem of buying gear. I can't decide on what amp to buy. I have been looking through that Musicians friend website for like 2 weeks, staying up till 6 in the morning every night, just trying to find something.

That Engl amp looks nice though. I'll ask my parents whats there price range hehe.

I'd probably go for the Engl Powerball of those 4. However check it out against a Mesa Triple and, if you can find them, Framus Cobra or Dragon.

Cheers,
Tony

Yeah, I actually really wanted a cobra...until I saw that it costs like $4000. It would be my favorite if it wasn't for that.

Do those come cheaper in the UK as well?

Yep...been looking at sound samples on youtube, and ENGL is so incredibly heavy. Seems like a really top-notch amp.

BTW, that mesa triple rectifier looks very nice. I'm never going to decide on one tongue.gif

haha, I decided to buy the Engl Thunder 50w Combo. I'll ask Engl if I could hook up a cab on it when I start doing live shows. I think my only problem with some of Engl amps like Thunder is that it doesn't come with a foot switch. You have to buy the $250 foot switch that they have.
