Hey Zsolt!

I have learnt whole Viking kong exept the solo, what shall i do now? i dont think ill be able to play the solo ever... is there a alternative solo or somthing? im not so good in improvising so when i try to play it it sound more bluesy than Neo-classical.
What do you think i should do???

Hi!

Your English is quite good, I could understand everything smile.gif

First of all, my approach to fast solos was the following:

If he can play it, he is a human being, I am too, so I could do it.
But it requires a lot of practice.

If you check Paul on youtube, you could see that he always improvises a lot and he never plays the same solo part.
If you really like this song, you should improvise a lot to it, and you could also try and come up with your own solo. As you progress, you will be able to play more and more of the original solo, so at the end, you will be able to do it.
Use the E phrygian dominant scale, the F# blues and F# minor scale while improvising.

And also thank you for your kind words smile.gif

You should just touch the fret an octave higher, and not literarly tap it. Experiment till you find the exact place and amount of strenght needed for the note.

I will chech the vid soon and try to correct it if it's a mistake, thank you for mentioning!

So im making a solo to the song Viking KOng by paul gilbert and i have made this lick:

E:--------------------------------------------------------
B:--------------------------------------------------------
G:-------13-14-16---------------13-14-15-------------
D:--------------------12-14-15--------------------------
A:---------------------------------------------12-14-15-

Hi!

This lick is similar to the one Paul plays in his "Intense Rock" video. He plays it in the opening solo, and shows how to play it in his "Terrifying Guitar Trip" vid.

If you want to sound like Paul, you should play it like this: Pick the first note ( G string, 13 ) and then hammer to the next two ( 14,16 ). Pick all the notes on the D string, starting with a downstroke. Then repeat the first pattern, also with hammers, and then pick all the notes on the A string. You always do a downstroke on the G string and you always start with an upstroke on your D and A string.

If you want to sound more like Paul, try to practice it without pluging your guitar to the amp. To hear all the notes, you'll have to pick harder. If you manage to learn it like this, your picking technique will be stronger and clearer.

Good practicing!
