It is either that, or the McCartney Signature 58. Which is the same thing, but some of them have a few added perks. Namely the ones that are 5,000-8,000 USD

If you have the money get the best one you can. If you are going to buy an SE version, might I recommend the Fredrik Akesson or the Mikael Akerfeldt Signature models? They are better than the normal SE in terms of Tone and feel. Plus, the Akerfeldt signature model comes with a satin paint on the back of the neck that allows for faster hand movement. I love Opeth, but I wish the Giant "O"(the band symbol) wasn't on the body. dry.gif

haha yes... yes I did! nicely done wink.gif ... its a nice body biggrin.gif... I just don't like that border tongue.gif

Basically the story is this:

I have my original (first) electric guitar... which has been through the wars..

Its an Ibanez GRG 150 bkn

I got that guitar .. for some personal reasons, and also, it was all I could afford at the time, plus I needed to make sure I was going to go through with actually playing guitar .. and not waste cash..

Problem is, now things are starting to give out on it, and there are a few issues i have with the guitar...

and fixing it would cost more than that guitar is worth...

so... I think I need to get a new one...

especially since its been an issue a few times on stage already o_O

You can most definitely afford either of the Opeth signature guitars. Only Mikael Akerfeldt's signature(which he uses onstage extensively) has the "O" on it. Akesson's does not. They both sound and play better than all the other SC58 SE's as well.

Thanks for the recommendation...

I see what you mean by the "O"..

I like the double dials for tone/volume on Akesson's, but I brefer the trem on Akerfeldt's...

So i've decided to go with that one...

the store says they're getting one on friday and they'll give me a call when it gets in..... biggrin.gif tongue.gif

You could always get the SE Paul Allender smile.gif Great guitar, and if you're into heavier stuff, the newer version comes loaded with EMGs as well, and they're pretty popular for metal wink.gif

Cosmin has this guitar as well, hear how it sounds in some of his lessons smile.gif

Absolutely! If it weren't for my current band needing the most high-gain weapons, I would already own that guitar. I loved the tone and it didn't feel too bad. Right now, I am just searching for a guitar that catches me right away. I have only had that relationship with any guitar once, and I went home with it. It is my Ibanez Artcore AFS75T. It felt and looked amazing right away. I did a little tune-up and now even my guitar-playing friends don't want to put it down. I need a new guitar, though. I will most likely get a Jackson or Schecter.

if you're getting a jackson then I can recomend the early ones like 87-89 models out of the San Dimas factory, I am lucky enough to have one that I picked up from a friend for $1200, they were all custom shop back then and the one I have was bought by Simon Gardener when he went to the states and he paid $5000 US in 1987. They are simply superb guitars.
