that article is so cool! It would be a dream to have all this amps in a room to test and choose the one that you like more... something impossible in Argentina because nobody imports amps like these ones and the easier to get are the Mesa Boogie and Peavey. I use the dual rectifier which is really good, and I tried the Peavey that is different (I feel that it's a bit more METAL and with more attack) and also great!

Guys wink.gif I'm going for the Mesa Boogie Road King biggrin.gif i think it's the best for the stuff I play, versatile enough and aggressive as well. This is indeed a good reference for your future shopping spree biggrin.gif but keep in mind that yoou need to see if you really blend in with these machines so take your favorite axe along for the ride when trying one wink.gif

Great post Cosmin!

El FORTINERO: You are quite right. They do all sound roughly similar and that's down to one thing. They are all miced the exact same so what you are hearing is the mic. It sounds like an SM57 stuffed dead center in the cone. As a result, you are getting no "Room Tone" which just means the reflections created in a room by an amp. The SM57 is a great live mic because it can take tons of volume and not crap out and it's practically indestructible. But....IMHO it's not a very articulate mic. It is actually a vocal mic with a bit of a mid range hump. Notice the lack of deep bass? When recording Rock/Metal, a Rock/Metal recording engineer will often put up one or two room mics as well as use a large diaphragm condenser mic either behind the cabinet with an open back or in the middle of the room in addition to the 57 stuffed in cone. All these mics are mixed together to get that low/crunchy/chunky sound you think of when year the words "Mesa Boogie".

So basically it has to do with how it was recorded. There are variances going on that we just can't hear. The subtle bits flatten out at high volume with single Sm57 doing all the work.

It's hard to go wrong with a MESA smile.gif They are just killer amps. They travel well, sound great, keep their resale value and look amazing on stage. Good choice smile.gif

Thank you man smile.gif it's a Russian pre-amp called AMT SS 20 biggrin.gif nothing else, guitar straight in and the pre-amp into the PC.

I love that little wonder tongue.gif

A great article but it was a real missed opportunity. I don't know why they gave it to 2 guys who just messed around with 1 note riffs and silly chords.. not one of them could play a simple 'chuggy' riff which is what everyone wants to know.. how heavy will that amp sound when you chug through it ?

They should have asked GMC to do the job ! biggrin.gif

smile.gif maybe, but Bulb (Misha Mansoor) is honestly, one of the most creative musicians out there - listen to Periphery and you'll figure out why wink.gif I don't think that he was badly chosen at all - what he decided to play in the presentation, well, that's his problem biggrin.gif
