GMC Forum _ Wiki Writers _ Announcement : Wiki Writers Rank

Posted by: Andrew Cockburn Jan 7 2008, 05:57 PM

As you are all no doubt aware, Kris launched the http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki a few days ago.

We already have some cool content in there but we want to encourage people to add more great articles!

To help this along, we are adding a new GMC member rank called "GMC Wiki:er" - for now, GMC Wiki:ers will (in addition to gaining huge GMC respect) be entitled to have "GMC Wiki:er" added to their title (Just as Senior members get a phrase of their choice, wiki writers will get an entry that says "GMC Wiki:er")

In order to qualify for this, the member must have made at least 5 posts of high quality. This is not going to be too hard to do, but we will have an eye on quality and we won't let just any articles through. We will be emphasizing content and good formatting.

So, how will it work? As follows:

1. Write 5 or more good quality articles
2. When you think you qualify, send our Wiki Coordinator Fran a PM with links to all of your articles
3. He will read them and either:
a. Approve your promotion
b. Give you feedback and tips on what you need to do to be accepted
4. When you are accepted you will get your title as soon as we can add it.

Simple huh?

What does everyone think?

Excellent idea! smile.gif

Posted by: DeepRoots Jan 7 2008, 07:13 PM

Brill- soon as i get some time i'll get writing

Posted by: Owen Jan 7 2008, 07:14 PM

I think this is a good check and reward to find out who's writing good articles and contributing in general!

Great idea smile.gif

Posted by: botoxfox Jan 7 2008, 07:20 PM

Sounds good...

Posted by: ZakkWylde Jan 7 2008, 07:20 PM

Is it just me or is there no author shown on the articles because I just wrote one and can not prove that it was done by me.

Posted by: rokchik Jan 7 2008, 07:22 PM

This is a great idea Andrew smile.gif I'm hoping to add to the wiki very soon.

Theres a section at the bottom of the wiki entitled User Contributions, this can be used to check who has done what smile.gif

Its needed otherwise the wiki would be impossible to moderate wink.gif

sounds good to me, I hope my first article is worth a point biggrin.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jan 8 2008, 10:09 AM

This is an excellent idea Andrew! laugh.gif

Also - top wiki contributors will of course be a priority choice for "seniorization"! smile.gif

Then I suggest you add more info to the Metallica article by using the edit button. By helping each other we can create some really cool articles - in fact I am quite sure that any article will be better if two persons work on it rather than one! laugh.gif

Posted by: Smikey2006 Jan 9 2008, 11:05 PM

To add to Kris's pont.. I just wrote an article on IBANEZ *GASP* people know alot more than me. and i could only learn soo much! Start adding folks i can see it being a great artical if everyone helps me out smile.gif

Awesome! (http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Ibanezis the article for those of you who haven't found it. Meybe we should list all the gmc instructors using an Ibanez - since this is a gmc community wiki, what do you think? biggrin.gif

well i did make sure to add Pavel, Andrew and Juan to the list of artists but a seperate GMC part would be good.. maybe even members who use ibanez ohmy.gif.. maybe we could do that for every guitar brand.. if you play that brand go add your name to the GMC members who play list.

Of course, you are right - the whole idea is that people can add themselves to the list! biggrin.gif That's the best way to do it!

Posted by: The Uncreator Jan 10 2008, 01:14 PM

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Ibanez#Artists

I added my name to the list, and i fixed the lists so they are lists, and easier to read.

PS
I just learned to make lists, you must put a <br> after each list item, so there is a line break, just like in HTML Coding.

Posted by: Smikey2006 Jan 10 2008, 10:46 PM

Thanks Uncreator ill try and add that to all my next lists.. i was just putting a - because i found it hard to make a noticeable space any other way.. Empty Jackson, ESP, Dean and BC.Rich pages are up if anyone wants to start contributing smile.gif if not ill be finishing those articles over the weekend
