GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Dreaming Music At Night

Posted by: WanderMan Sep 11 2009, 08:45 PM

Last night I dreamed of music again, what's more I remembered one sentence of a song when I woke up.

I thought I might ask GMC:ers about that their own experience !

For me it occurs in 2 different ways
In rare occasion, like last night, while waking up. I remember one morning dreaming of the 'X-File' tv show music theme being a bit boring, and so dreamed of a wildly derived music.

Last night there was some 'images' too, I was swimming in what seemed to be a river filled with floating garbage in some town(???)
The song was a kind of memorial song for somebody close in my family, but thanks god that person is still alive .

Yet now I don't remember the music, I think I got it in my head this morning.

The second kind is when I am half way to sleep. This time the process is more controlled... I want to imagine music first. Soon enough its goes wild and uncontrolled.

Then come the frustrating part : I don't remember anything shortly after awoken sad.gif
When I take some instrument and try imagine some melody : nothing, so I wonder...
Is the music in my dream relay imaginated or do I think I ear music but it's just a mere illusion ?

Tell me of your experiences and thinking about that smile.gif

Man, I can completely relate to this!
I too hear some great music in my sleep and often can't quite remember how it sounds when I wake up..
I always liked to think that I just have glimpses of heaven when I dream those dreams and that I'm just hearing angels..
Man, I wish I could remember some of that stuff! Makes me want to get to Heaven fast! :-)

When I'm in bed, a point to sleep, It happens that a lot of unbelievable musical ideas come to my head. Orchestrations, fantastic riffs, melodies, etc. Even, I know I dream about them. The frustrating part of the story is that, when I finally woke up, I CAN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING!!. That is really really disapointing

A good tip: Make a dream journal. Write down all the details you remember about every dream. After a while you notice that you remember more and more of your dreams, and you might remember that you wrote a masterpiece in your sleep biggrin.gif

Personally, I never dream about music... Only about weird stuff. Like beeing locked into an appartment where the only link to the outside is a Car Simulator Game, and I can't even get it into gear!

You should keep a recorder by the bed, and as soon as you wake, turn it on and hum what ever you can remember. You might come up with something really rewarding.

Happened to me lots of times, but unfortunately I can't remember any of it once I wake up. I have a feeling that there is some really good music hidden in dreams.
Paul McCartney wrote Yesterday in a dream and he got lucky to remember it when he woke up smile.gif

I hear a lot of simple phrases while I'm awake and asleep. Simple phrases, 4/4, 3/4, 7/8 one bar call & response phrases looped indefinitely. On some days and nights they tend to go through my mind non stop mellow.gif

Yes, humming to a recorder is a good solution.

Years ago I was doing just that. One day I red it all back. Piled up, dreams make it sounds like you are totaly crazy. It was realy disturbing so I stopped.

I see I'm not the only one dreaming music then, nice cool.gif

Oh definitely, many times riffs just linger in my mind all through the night! All the best ideas always come then.
