GMC Forum _ Gabriel Leopardi _ Neoclassical Power Metal Collab

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Apr 19 2012, 05:33 PM

Hello guys!! Welcome to my new collaboration! This time I will share a backing inspired in Neoclassical Power Metal bands like Stratovarius and Sonata Artica. This is an audio collab, so everybody that has the possibility to record audio can join. smile.gif

This backing is in E minor but you have to alternate between the scales E minor aeolian and E hamonic minor.

The chord progression is:

E5 - E (+5) - B5
C5 - D5 - G D/F# - E5 - D5
C5 - D5 - B5

You can use E minor all the time excepting when the chord B5 is sounding. There you have to use E harmonic minor.

Deadline: May 3rd. (14 days)

Sounds awesome! I'll work on it in my thread.

This will be really cool, the backing track is really awesome, but I think it's too hard for me, and I have no improvisation/writing skill for the moment :/

WOW this is cool! Your jams are usually cool but this is waaaaayy cool. smile.gif I"M IN! I hope my Saturday Regulars come and join too!

POURLIVER: Don't be thrown off by the speed, you can play anything you like as long as it's heart felt and it will work smile.gif

ey man! don't worry, this collabs are for practice. Let me know if you want me to help you to work on this one. We can start a Gab's Army thread and work on this backing or maybe starting with any other.

Hey guys! Don't miss this new collab! smile.gif

This is just an AWESOME backing man, just killer. I've enjoyed your backing tracks in the past but this really takes it to a new level. It's honestly a perfect backing. Just begs for some serious riffage. I think I may have seriously overplayed but it seemed to work smile.gif Hope you guys dig it!

Hi mate! Feel free to use my backing! There is also a lesson based on this one on the way! smile.gif

Final take! As we talked in my thread I did change those notes around to fit better into the transition. I ended up playing the whole part differently and look forward to your thoughts on it. I like it better myself, although one note was muted near the end of the run.

Can I get a Guitar pro file of the backing track????
I've got the main feel of how I'll do the solo..... but need to figure out the right notes in front of the right chord... So that I'll play 'em like I mean 'em

Hello guys! This is the final mix and comments of this cool collaboration based on the Neoclassical Power Metal Style. Thanks Todd and Degroot for joining! I must say that this could be the solo section of any professional power metal band out there. Your level and taste is fantastic guys! smile.gif

Todd’s Solo:
Your fast alternate picking licks are always like a weapon, you are very precise and tight. Every note sounds cool over the chords and the overall solois very funny to hear. You play neoclassical style but in a very fresh way, and that’s a very difficult thing to achieve. Your tone on this one remembers me a lot to Tony McAlpine 80’s Shred Albums, have you noticed it?

DeGroot's Solo:
I followed every step while you were creating this solo at Gab’s Army thread and I would like to say that the result is superb. I love this solo mate, everythins fits perfect over the backing and the overal is fresh and interesting. Your technique is flawless and your tone very warm. Congrats for your job!

Oh no, that means the collab finished... I am late..... Darn, I wish I could solo over it, hey Gabe, please do something similar soon... I'd love to be in it, or if you can guys could delay it two or three days....

Posted by: DeGroot May 9 2012, 07:31 AM

Thanks very much for the comments! I'm glad to get the opportunity to fine tune solos in Gab's army. It certainly pushed me to make it better.

I thought I'd hear a lot of takes with such a cool backing. I personally love to play over this kind of music. Well, see you on the next one. wink.gif

AWESOME! Turned out great smile.gif Thanks for the mix and the feedback! I'm glad you noticed the bits of musical humor that I try to lace in to my solos smile.gif It's always fun to juxtapose certain bits in a clever way and actually get a smile or even a giggle out of folks when they listen to a passage.

Thanks also for the comparison in tone to Tony McAlpine as thats exactly the tone I was going for here smile.gif Tony is one of my All Time Fav players and I still love his tone, his technique, his style, just a killer player. This tune in particular seemed to be begging for a bit of Tony smile.gif He uses "Semi Pinch" picking in some passages like I did here in the first lick. It's alternate picking bording on pinch harmonics and leads off a scale well smile.gif

Thanks again and I look forward to the next one!

Todd

Hi Yash! I have to respect the deadlines for collaborations. Feel free to record something over this backing and post it at Gab's Army thread and I will give you my feedback. By the way I'll be starting a new collab in 10 days...
