I have not been around in awhile. Life gets in the way sometimes. Anyway things are good now and I have been playing again.

One of my goals when I started playing was to be able to play a Dio song since I have always loved Vivian Campbells playing.

I feel like I hit all the notes and the chords. There is one or two times where I come close to losing it but I do not feel like its to bad. Anyway I plan on playing it lots more so It will only get better with time.

I really enjoyed it! You seem relaxed when playing which definately shows how comfortable you are.

By the way, can you send me your guitar? Thanks wink.gif

Thanks Fran the solo was the hardest part for me. Thats were I was off in the song. Just in the first 5 seconds I got off just a touch the rest is pretty well in time. Its not enough to really notice unless you do a comparison. smile.gif

Thanks... I get a little tense when I try to record. I have been working real hard on learning to handle the pressure of recording and playing in front of someone. I have stage fright so its a work in progress. But I am slowly improving.

The guitar is an Ibanez J Craft Custom with Dimarzio Air Norton pickup in the Bridge. Tone Zone in the neck but I used the Bridge pickup.

I used my Eleven Rack set to the Mark Morton Sinus Infection preset. It recorded direct into the Eleven Rack that has Pro Tools built in. The pre set is a high gain amp setup. So I would suggest something that Replicates a Marshall with high gain.

Hope this helps. Thanks for the feedback. And you are correct "Dio Forever"

I hope to have a couple more Dio songs done in the next couple of months. smile.gif

Brilliant effort mate, I love Dio, and especially a fan also of Vivan Campbell, particlarly his Dio days.

the main thing I would say that you could improve this is with more attack, mainly would come with more confidence, other than that I thought it was a good effort smile.gif

I did an In the style of Vivian Campbell lesson here some time ago, you can check it out HERE

but heres the main video from youtube

Great job, vivian is also one of my favorite influences
one thing to add though
this was not one of his shred fest solos-the genius in this solo is the pinched harmonics that he throws in through out this solo
i encourage you to try to implement this into your playing

Great to have you back with us and playing guitar more often. Very good cover, its accomplishment when you can play a whole song note for note. Regarding performance, it was very well and relaxed. Try to work more on getting it even tighter in timing and look into the muting techniques as there are some unnecessarily noises heard while riffing. Great job overall, looking forward to more of the videos! smile.gif

Hey Chris Nice job on the in the Style of Vivian Campbell.

I can still remember walking through the record store when I was 17 and looking through the Racks of Albums (Yes Albums!) And hearing this incredible music playing in the background. It was Dio Holy Diver. I sat in the store and listened to the whole album with the guy who was working there. I bought the album and drove home and immediately went home and recorded it onto a Maxell Cassette tape. I had a Kraco Cassette player in my mustang with a set of Jensen 100W 3 way 6X9's and a 40W amp. Then I went to the bowling alley that night and we sat out on the hood of car jamming to Dio.

You are right about playing more aggressive. I am getting to that point with this song. Its just going to take a little bit more time. I need to get it down just a tad bit better and then I can start focusing on the smaller details.

Thanks for the feedback.

You are correct about the pinched harmonics. There was one in this solo and mine was really weak. Right now I can hit it about 50% of the time. I tried to hard because I was filming and that always seems to be the death of a pinched harmonic.
