GMC Forum _ Uploads _ Cover Of Pink Floyd's Money

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Jan 24 2010, 08:18 AM

Hey. My band just recorded a cover of Money by Pink Floyd for our drummer's music coursework. Just would like to know what you think? I think it turned out pretty good smile.gif The coursework was to use similar methods and amps to record Money to get it to sound close to the song.

Well done! That is indeed close to the original... smile.gif

I will say that it sounds very close, it has that 70's retro warm sound without any hard edges.. And it still keeps me wonder if they ever tried out to play the guitar solo in 7/4 as well, I guess they did but failed..... since improvising in 7/4 is not an easy task if you're not used to it. ohmy.gif

He should get a good mark for it I think. Well produced by him. It was fun playing it also.

Awesome cover - sounds like Gilmour and the boys in the studio themselves!

If you want to make it even more authentic, you should record a second layer of lead guitar during the solo. I have a 'Classic Albums' DVD of Dark Side of the Moon and it shows how David Gilmour recorded the solo, then went back and basically learned the solo note for note and recorded over it again with a 2nd track. I think he might have panned each lead guitar track all the way left and right, respectively.

Of course the middle section of the solo is just one audible guitar (panned left), then he slams both guitars back into gear as the solo takes off again.

Nice work!

Christ. I've been gone so long I didn't see this. Thankyou for the feedback and we'll try it out. We play the song live frequently.
