What are your Top 3 favorite ballads? I say Top 3 becuase it would be impossible to choose just one
1. Johnny Winter - Stranger - http://www.metacafe.com/watch/538532/johnny_winter_stranger_in_this_town/ (the studio version is much better btw)
Excellent vocals, sound, solo and specially the chord progression.
2. Iron Maiden - Strange World - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=V4gj67WLmE4
Extremely beautiful solos. The bass is also AMAZING!!!
3. Iron Maiden - Prodigal Son - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QUsibOlkt-o
Sort of a happy acoustic tune, I just love it. This is the most fun song to play that I know of
1) Metallica: Nothing Else Matters - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=v2qIiJTsxp0
Awesome intro, perfect tone, great vocals , and my all time favorite solo
2) Iron Maiden - Strange World - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QUsibOlkt-o
What can I say about this that Robin hasn't covered? (besides that its freaking sick)
3) Metallica - Fade to Black - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-pWetRkBWIQ
Insanely calming to insanely fast, amazingly fun to play, and some great riffs
Skid Row - Remember Yesterday
I would have to say Journey, I think... Sorry, but they're the masters of ballads. As for favorite songs, probably Don't Stop Believing and Separate Ways. I have other songs I might put down, but "ballad" can be interpreted way differently between people...
Well all the Metallica and Megadeth listed above ofcourse. Also
Montly Crue=Home Sweet Home
Ill think of more later
1.) Iron Maiden - Journeyman/ Bruce Dickinson - Tears Of The Dragon
2.) Blind Guardian - The Bards Song (In The Forest)
3.) Epica - Chasing The Dragon/ Nightwish - Sleeping Sun
All the songs are just incredibly beautiful, They make me forget all my problems and take me to that special place in my head
Bards Song. Man I have that as my current ringtone.
1. Fade to Black- Metallica ( what Alimo said)
2. Cemetery Gates- Pantera ( I get chills everytime I listen to it )
3. Welcome Home Sanatarium- Metallica ( I love how the song transitions from calm and tranquil to pure rage)
Mmm, I'm a Maiden fan, but I never like their ballads
Well, my favorites:
1. Lake of tears (Gammaray)
2. Galsmedley (from Iluha, hehehe )
3. En un suspiro (that's mine )

Windowpane-Opeth

Since We Met-Tommy emmanuel http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JCFFKrfO9Z0
And many others, especially Andy Mckee s stuff
1. Epilogue for Lisa (Shawn Lane)
2. A Tale That Wasn't Right (Helloween)
3. The Healer (Primal Fear)
So many to choose from but I'll go with:
Poison - Every Rose Has it's Thorn....has a bit of sentimental value from when I was a kid
GNR - November Rain....was the first song my B/F and I ever danced to
Cinderalla - Don't Know what You got 'till it's gone.....no reason really just love that song.
Edit: as an honorable mention the Celine Dion song from Titanic "My Heart will go On"....the women can sing and that song is just beautiful.
These ones are so good for me...
Tears of the Dragon (Bruce Dickinson)
Falling into pieces (Velvet Revolver)
Luciana.
I'll just give you one, my absolute fav ballad. If I have to do more I have to think and I'm not in the right state for that.
I'm practicing the beer lesson posted earlier today. So here it is.
The only ballad you will ever need.
Alice Cooper - Only Women Bleed
Best ballad IMO is Holiday by the Scorpions
I'll try to stick with rock ballads here:
Heart - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxfdDrKO8uM&mode=related&search=
Scorpions - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnKVAP0_Hik
Robin Trower - Long Misty Days
(Sorry this is Trower's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGw3-j6LDUw&mode=related&search= but I can't find a video for Long Misty Days. Bridge of Sighs is wonderful as well...)
Sort of shows my age really - all 70s and early 80s
BTW that Johnny Winter was fab.
Cheers,
Tony
I'd have to say Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton its musically great and its meaning is one to understand.
