Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Van Halen Tapping Style - Beginner by Joe Kataldo

Always tapped using my first finger until I saw Kris's lesson on it. Holding the pick while doing it is a whole new ball game. Fun lesson though!

Indeed...some guitar players Use the index finger but it never worked for me smile.gif I think that's easier this way - keeping Your pick between the thumb and the first finger...of course if You don't use multi-finger tapping. Good job but You should still work on the position shift...only the moments of position changing seems to be not quite confident. It almost there. I would like to see one more take. Try to focus when You are getting closer to the and of one lick...already think how to set your lef hand for the next one....then do very quick change that will not affect first notes of nex lick. Cheers! smile.gif

Hi mate, your tapping is sounding good and I think that using that finger is a good idea to be able to switch between pick and tapping smoothly. The problem with these lesson is that you are playing a different pattern compared with the original lesson. Compare both takes and you will notice what I mean.

Well, I will come up with a third approach smile.gif

Why not keep the pick as you hold it now, but instead of having the thumb in the air, anchor the superior part of the neck using your thumb?

That will give your hand a lot of stability and thus, less unwanted sounds when recording - try it in the next take and let's see how it goes?
