HI Guys i want to change my stock pick ups on my new Ibanez Rg 2550 Z
Basiclly i want to have a more agressive sound ( more Hardrock , Metal .. the stock ones are a bit weak) maybe i will go 4 the steve vai´s evos( got any suggestions on other pick ups that would sound nice ?? like the Air Norton or something like that ?? ) .. somthing that will give me a nice paul gilbert tone or Marty friedman .. i think EMG´s would be too much so somthing a bit bellow that tongue.gif

I would also like to change the midlle to another single coil w/ more output ( this one is almost touching the strings and still the out put isen´t so great) i want one that can give me a nice kinda like strat tone .. any suggestions ???

Edit :What do u think of putting some the same pu´s that come with an rg 3550 z :

NeckPU: DiMarzio® Air Norton™ Neck

MiddlePU: DiMarzio® True Velvet™ Middle

BridgePU: DiMarzio® Tone Zone® Bridge
????????? ( do they sound nice )

i was thinin about placing some white pick ups or some of thouse that are half black half white .. just to change the guitar´s looks .. do you think it would loo knice ??

I just wanted to support the idea of either a white single coil or zebra humbuckers, I love the look of those smile.gif

Is it a bird? Is it a Plane?

BEHOLD

It is I, Pickup-Man! tongue.gif

I Always like the Combination of Steve Vai Evolution (Bridge) and Joe Satriani Paf Joe (Neck) for a Basswood RG, I even had that combo in my RG until I sold the guitar! Makes it a shred monster!!!
The Evolution Bridge sound Awesome in Basswood or Alder (was built for that) and it covers literally ANY Style but it excells in hardrock, Metal and shredding. The Paf Joe is a hotter version of the legendary Paf Pro which will give you some very fluid lead sounds and a good clean tone, only medium output but already more than the stock ones!

Do you really need the middle single coil? I did not and if you don't really need it, safe your money and just lower it a bit into the body to get out of the way of your picking!
If you want one the go fo the Evolution Coil, the Yngwie Malmsteen middle coil or the true velvet to match the other humbuckers output.

A Seymour Duncan Sh-4 bridge and SH-1 Set would also fullfill your needs but the Evolution/Paf Combo sounds just so good, there is no need for anything else. I also recommended this set to another GMCer (forgot who, SORRY!) and he was also blown away!

A full set of Steve Vai Evolutions would be one way to go, or a Jazz (neck) JB (bridge) and a SS3 (middle) is a great combination!

whatdo you guys think of the Super Distortion®( Bridge )?? ( I think Paul gilbert used to have these ) and what do you think of the Dual Sound that has a lpush-pull pot for series-parallel or single-coil operation =)???

Will they allow me to play some nice distorted tone like 80/ 90s hardrock what about metal, like some metallica pantera ... (will they have litlle output or will they do the job ??) ??? '??

Paul Gilbert sounds like Paul Gilbert, regardless of what he plays, even with low output humbuckers or Singlecoils (Ibanez Fireman!)
The super distortion is more of a 80s Metal and Garage Punk pickup for my ears (I am sure many would disagree).

Splitted humbuckers will never sound like singlecoil pickups as the coils of a humbucker are designed to work together and no seperately. It is a cool feature to have a coilsplit available but it doesn't sound like the real thing!
