HP:
2219 Processor score (Passmark score: Passmark website if you're interested) To give you some scope, the best laptop processor scores 7701. <---
7200 rpm drive <---
VGA Webcam
3GB RAM

Acer:
1641 Processor score (Passmark score)
5400 rpm drive
1.3 MP Webcam <---
6GB RAM <---

I'd get the HP, it has a way better processor, and a faster drive (which Ivan said helped with recording). It's also 50 quid cheaper, and you can get a nice webcam like http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/webcam-commu...7#section=specs for £35, which is "2MP native, up to 8MP enhanced" smile.gif

For £14 more pounds, you can upgrade the RAM to 4GB (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002ZME33Q/ref=...ASIN=B002ZME33Q). With the upgraded RAM, and the better webcam, it's still £1 cheaper than the Acer biggrin.gif

I agree, HP is better, specially if Acer has 5400rpm drive.

Yeah, the new one is better. It has 4gb ram and can have its RAM upgraded to 8gb max, unlike the other, 4gb max.

The problem with buying an external HD is that it'd have to go via USB 2, which would limit the speed. You could buy a firewire card, to speed things up, but that's an extra cost.

I've also heard that writing to an external drive is more work on the processor, so you'd need to test it on that specific laptop. Also, I think the slightly faster processor speed won't be better than having a faster HD.

An internal HD would cost you around £40 (something like this Clicky)

If I were you, I'd get this new laptop you've found, and swap-out the internal HD if things aren't going that well.
