I've had this fantasy for a while of plugging a guitar into a big modular synth. Some day I'm going to do it...and proably learn that it sounds like ass. I really like Muse mostly because I've more of a fan of interesting soundscapes and noise on guitar than crisp technique. Which is kind of odd since I'm really getting interested in learning some neoclassical shred stuff now that I actually have a guitar to learn on. The singer/guitar player is incredible... he sings like a mix of Bono and Freddy Mercury and also plays the guitar in a very original and imaginative way. I used to listen to the studio albums and I though they were great. The last week I saw a live concert in tv and I thing that they are one of the best pop/rock bands of this times. The most practiced and perfected covers my band does are songs of Matt Bellamy and co. Prefer the darker sound of Absolution and (especially) Origin of Symmetry - not a single mediocre song on that album. Still not quite as convinced by Black Holes... but Showbiz is nostalgia by now And yes, Bellamy is one of the more underrated guitarists out there - probably mostly because he doesn't go for the (comparatively) clear, pure tone of neo-classical, blues or most kinds of rock, really. That's not to say I don't love their other stuff though, muse is a pretty original band who has made a big impact on my own musical thinking. BH&R was an album that grew on me. at first i was upset that they left the darker tone of the perfect (imo) album Absolution, but after a while i started digging it. even Supermassive Black hole. mann, that song is cool. wow. muse is just amazing. As for Knights, it's not just that it's over the top, it's also that the melodic material on all instruments (including voice) seems uninspired and naive (the latter of which is certainly intended - just doesn't work for me).
