* You haven't missed my latest video lessons, have you?

* Oh and did you know that to become a killer guitarist you just need to focus on one thing? Everything
else is secondary. Pm me and I will explain.

When I tune my guitar lower than drop D, the strings all sound and feel kinda loose...is that normal? I am using Ernie Ball 54 - 11 which are said to be optimal for de-tuning, but it still feels weird when I try a C# or C tuning.

What kind of a guitar do you use? Does it have a floating trem or a fixed bridge?

I always calibrate my guitars at a very skilled guitar craftsman in here - he makes sure that my axes are always fit for the best use. Strangely though, I'm using the same string gauge (0.11 - 0.54) for the drop C tuning and it never failed me. My axe has a bone nut which was a little bit adjusted for heavy gauge strings - there may be a possibility that the strings are choked by the nut a little.

You should check the nut to see if the strings are loose enough to slide in the spaces without any trouble.

Hey mate! I'm using a very mildly overdriven tone and I play 16th notes as evenly as possible smile.gif other than that, no big secret tongue.gif those chords are pretty tough, I know and getting them flow will take a little work, but it's not that difficult once you give it some time biggrin.gif

Check this out - try a crunchy tone (I usually use these settings Bass 10 o clock, Mid Scooped, Highs 1 o clock, Gain 10-11 o clock wink.gif)

now add reverb to it and that's about it

This is how it's done on the recording smile.gif please let me know if I can help you further and of course I wanna see the REC take if you wanna do one tongue.gif

Hey man I was reading your post over in the "Game of modes" thread about how to ephasize the mixolydian mode. I understand your answer, at least as far as using G7 and G7sus4 when G is the 5th degree of C Major Scale. My question is what is a Vamp? I haven't come across this term yet, and was wondering what it referred to?

Good morning mate smile.gif To be a little more precise, here are the definitions I could coax out of the info I found:

VAMP = A vamp is a repeated phrase, often referring to something that is laid down and built on by jazz and funk players. It is distinguished from a "loop" because variations are slowly built in by improvisation. Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island" and Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" could be said to be built out of a vamp.

Thanks man! That makes it a lot clearer, I think I have actually been doing this in some of my jazz playing and didn't even know it tongue.gif
Also, that website you linked in your post is awesome, has lots of interesting theory stuff besides the info on vamps, I think I'll bookmark it and read through some of the other stuff as well!
