Posted by: superize Sep 24 2009, 10:52 AM
What do you guys say you wanna give this a try
Posted by: Nimrandir Sep 28 2009, 03:28 AM
I'd like to try too!
I'm kinda intermediate player and can play some faster AP and legato stuff (no sweeping though ), I'm primarily interested in power-symphonic-prog metal. I can also do basic synth and sampling + drum programming (although I'm really bad at it).
So if there are four of us, we lack drummer and singer (or does any of you guys sing? ), but we can start out like that and see what happens later.
What do tou think?
Posted by: Boson Sep 28 2009, 06:54 AM
Looking forward to seeing you guys get this together

Unfortunately I don't have any videos (never actually recorded any ). But if you want I can probably make some by the end of the week Meanwhile you can check 3 collabs I've been in, although there is no power metal or fast stuff in there
Also, if all is OK, I think we should PM the other guys and let them know that we're getting started
Posted by: Mrblomme Sep 28 2009, 06:45 PM
Lets give it a try!
Posted by: superize Sep 28 2009, 06:48 PM
This sounds good.....
Should we try and do a cover first
Posted by: Mrblomme Sep 28 2009, 06:53 PM
Should be the best thing idd. What have you guys in mind?
You guys want powermetal, I sometimes dont get the difference between kinds of metal but are Iron Maiden and Manowar powermetal? xD

Both can be considered power metal but when i hear power metal i think of.... Stratovarius, Axenstar, Insania, Galneryus, Sonata Arctica, Heavenly......
But i dont really care what band we cover as long as it is metal
Posted by: Mrblomme Sep 28 2009, 06:59 PM
Yeah metal is allright with me, just not real death metal. Dont like that.

Got any songs you would like to suggest
Posted by: Nimrandir Sep 28 2009, 07:25 PM
I really don't know what to suggest... Personally I'll do anything that's not too "over the top" technique-wise, and, if possible, in standard tuning as my only guitar has a floyd rose bridge... (although it's not always relevant to lead playing).
I'm not really an expert in power metal bands, but maybe we could cover some Blind Guardian song? Something like Into the Storm? Shouldn't be too hard
But again, I'm open to anything
Posted by: Mrblomme Sep 28 2009, 08:03 PM
I also wouldnt know what to suggest haha.
Hammerfall would be nice though ...
Posted by: Nimrandir Sep 29 2009, 12:52 AM
Let's do Hammerfall then! Superize, what do you think? And what song should we cover?

I say great! Let's do it!
Now we need to transcribe it and divide the parts. Or does anybody have tabs for it?

I know the rythm part and getting tabs for it is easy
Posted by: Mrblomme Sep 29 2009, 02:05 PM
I've just found the bass tabs but need to check them if they are correct when I'm home from school. I'm just going to post the link here, otherwise I wont find it when I'm home.
Doesnt someone have the guitarpro of all instruments?
btw it would be good to have eachothers MSN. just put it in PM or something
Posted by: Nimrandir Sep 29 2009, 10:59 PM
Well, the guitar pro can be found also on UG Here's the link: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/h/hammerfall/hearts_on_fire_guitar_pro.htm
By the way, are all those 15/16 and 17/16 bars correct?

I think we could try to do it with 3 guitars

I agree! And later, when we'll be doing original stuff, the more members we have the more ideas we get
Now we need to arrange this for 3 guitars. Marabou, can you play the solo? If yes, we can harmonize it and play together (if it will sound good of course ). One more question is - are we going to get a vocalist for this one? If no, I can play the vocal line on guitar, but again we'll have to see if it sounds any good
And the last question - we need a backing for it; as I understood there is no synth in this track so we only need to program drums. I can do it but I'm bad at it, is there anybody willing to take this job?
Ok, that was not the last question We need a name for our band. Any ideas?
PS I'm learning the solo now, the only problem is that I've never done sweep picking before so I need some time to speed it up, but the sweeps here are actually quite slow, so I'll be ready soon
Posted by: Mrblomme Oct 1 2009, 04:43 PM
Hmmm well vocal line would be great but I dont know if someone wants to do that here?

Oh you meant on guitar ^^ sorry i didn´t quite connect there at first, sure i could try and do that on guitar on the parts where he sings and then i can play along with the track on the other parts and we can try to harmonize the solo like you guys said before.

Update : I've pretty much learned all the guitar parts, and at last figured out the best way to tackle those sweeps, so a couple more days of polishing and I'll be ready to record! One question though : don't you mind if I change solo a bit (if you look at the gp file I've given, I'd like to change bar 58 by playing something with 32nd notes instead of 16th triplets, but based on the same notes and shapes)?
So two open questions atm are: 1) Name of the band; 2) Who can do the backing?
Posted by: Mrblomme Oct 4 2009, 10:52 PM
I'll start to learn the song tomorrow on my bass! Solo you have to discuss with guitarists.

Posted by: superize Oct 8 2009, 09:41 PM
Sorry if i have been a little absint but i now the rythm part for this song by hart so whenever you guys are ready to record i am ready
Posted by: Dexxter Oct 8 2009, 10:02 PM
Sorry, I haven't been able to record something so you can hear my singing, will definitely do that this weekend.
I am also more or less ready to record this as soon as we got drums programmed (how's it going with that bloome?) and bass and some rhythm guitar recorded
Posted by: Boson Oct 9 2009, 06:42 AM
Sounds like this is going well guys
Looking forward to hearing the results.

Update on drums: I've tried but I'm really not that good at it, could someone else try it ...?
Posted by: Nimrandir Oct 9 2009, 05:43 PM
I can try, but I need your help. Is the whole track in 4/4 or are there odd time signatures as in gtp (which I doubt)? I'll try to make a sketch with EZdrummer on this weekend, and then we can tweek drum sounds later (cause I know nothing about adjusting frequencies, drum fx and so on).

Take a look at these links, maybe they will be helpful http://www.recordingeq.com/EQ/req0301/feature.html http://home.earthlink.net/~prof.sound/id12.html http://www.recordingeq.com/Subscribe/tip/tascam.htm (this one is about frequency adjustment in general, not just for drums)

Thanks for the links man but I think I just cant make the drumtrack. I really have a lack of time, have ways to much work to do.

Ok, I recorded the singing of one of my bands songs. The recordings on our myspace is our former singer. It's thrash, so not the same style, but it's hopefully something to give you an idea of how I sound Not mixed or anything, just exported a bit from the song from the recording process.

Posted by: superize Oct 19 2009, 01:58 PM
i am just waiting for someone to do drums....... My Ez drummer dosent work so i cant do them
Posted by: Nimrandir Oct 19 2009, 02:11 PM
Hi guys! Sorry for not replying. I've tried doing drums, but the main problem is that the drums in gp are wrong and I'm really bad at picking drums by ear (for example, hihat is played through almost entire song, but its not there in gp). If you can live with imperfect drums, I'll mix them (ofcourse I don't know anything about mixing either ).
One more problem - my guitar is broken and I dunno when I'll be able to fix it, so I won't be able to record anything for some time (although I hope I'll buy a new guitar already tomorrow; wanted to do it for a long time now ).
