but i was wondering if it would be wise to practice this lesson slowly and gradually increase the speed just like an exercise so eventually it would be at (the astounding) 150 bpm.

Start everything REALLY slow,it's that's 50bpm ,that's ok.
Keep it clean and slowly upgrade tempo but don't rush. That is tricky lesson a bit,take your time and have fun practicing.  BTW,post your progress(video maybe) here so I could give you an advice or som.

Well that is not bad decision IF you're feeling bad with it.
Try something easier and come back for it later on,it won't vanish from the site.
