My current favorite guitarist - Guthrie. I have been watching most of his videos lately and here is what I found to be very useful. He goes deep into where the problem lies and if you start practicing on those fingers, you will improve both timing and strength. I did. Hope it helps you too if you are on the same boat.

Great vid! Notice how light his touch is? This is something I keep coming back to in my chats. It's easy to over do it when gripping the neck which is why we practice "Thumbless" or without the left thumb to retrain your hand as to the minimum pressure needed. With a light enough touch, everything gets a bit easier/smoother/quicker.
