Mustaine Solos, Fast and controlled soloing

Hi Marcus,
I have a question about speed soloing. I don't know if you listen to any Megadeth. If not then you should know that dave Mustaine's solos are incredibly fast. I need to learn a great deal of his solos for a concerts where I am Lead Vocalist/Guitar for many Megadeth songs. Some examples are:
1-The Conjuring
2-My Last Words
3-Holy Wars
4-Last Rites
5-The Mechanix
6-Ride The Lightning (playing the solo mustaine style)

I was hoping you could tell me some tricks to play his typoes of solos. I know NO scales at all (kind of like him) but I believe he plays pentatonic licks. Also, any tips to exercices for control?

Hate to butt in on Marcus' forum... but...


I'm pretty sure you should learn some scales before tackling any speedy solos.

Alas, I could be mistaken. Haha. rolleyes.gif


But I do know one thing: Knowing the scales makes everything easier. From soloing, to improv'ing to writing songs.

Most of those solos are done by hired guns (Marty Friedman for example), not by Mustaine. Mustaine plays the a pentatonic box in just a few positions. His real skill is in his rhythm.
