I intended to submit my first REC video today.... but I failed to due "practice 'tunnel' overload syndrome"!! Oh NO!! ohmy.gif

Or that's my excuse anyway!! I worked on this for a while, before recording, and the "red-light-fever" hit me immediately! The first take, of 20+, ended up being my best. But, there is a huge fail right on the last run. After a while, I had to sit it down because I got "tunnel vision" and just kept getting worse and worse. Bummer, because I'm SO CLOSE!! mad.gif

But, I don't want to submit this as my first REC, because I'm afraid the end of the vid will "FAIL" me. I can do better. I WILL do better. I WILL.....move on to something else for a little bit. dry.gif

Thanks a lot!! biggrin.gif

BUT, I still think that the vid shows I could stand to learn the material just a bit better.... Upon looking back at this vid, I noticed that my timing isn't as good (or "groovin"... I think Cosmin mentioned this on an earlier take) on the more Scofield-esque hammer-on/pull-off riff portions as it could be, if my fingers/brain/muscle-memory was 100% on the material.

I actually set it down, and went at it an hour later and came up with better takes. Yet, always, something would be off. Biff a note. Slow up a bit through a run. Bad bend. Something.

I'm not beating myself up over this, but it's actually really nice to be able to see the minor flaws (aka: "room for IMPROVEMENT!!") on these runs that I THOUGHT were near perfection. I'll have my REC video soon. And it will be clean, oh so clean!!

Very nice! Infinitely better than ANY Rec I have submitted! laugh.gif Daniel Realpe said we should not wait until it is perfect to submit it and I have to agree. If it is perfect, there will be no advice to give us. Submitting the thing, even when I KNEW I would not pass was good for me. Notice I did not say that I knew I would fail. I can play something and sound really good but the minute I click that little blue button and the red light comes on, then I start the backing track.... my heart starts racing, sometimes I shake, etc. I know exactly how you feel.
Brandon (Fireball) has only been playing for (I think) 3 years. He is much better than I am and looks totally comfortable in front of the camera. I may be wrong, but I would bet he was nervous at first too! He obviously overcame it and you will too. I also see a lot of REC's from Dinaga. This guy is really good in front of the camera too so you might want to PM either one of them and ask them how they dealt with it.

Exactly. I now feel like the camera is just there. I still do better without it on, but I'm very close to being completely comfortable. It doesn't really bother me like it used to. Just check out my signature link "This could be YOU in 3 years" Derper.

hey! congrats friend!! It's not a bad take man!! You should submit it since the idea of the REC program is to give feedback to help you to improve you playing. If the take don't pass, you don't fail, you will receive some useful comments to improve your playing. That "blocked mind effect" that you feel when you press the REC button is normal and it will disappear after some more recording sessions... it's part of the learning process to be able to be the same player alone, being recorded and being watched... smile.gif

I finally submitted today! Here's the vid.... not perfect, but I know what is wrong with it. I'll continue to work on the riff and get it smoother and more fluid in the meanwhile.

So far, looks like I'm doing alright on the score for my first REC vid!! 2 votes in so far....an 8, and a 9!! Either way, I'm going to keep working on it, and get this lick even cleaner!!

I don't think you failed! It sounds pretty good! A few things here and there but it's not an easy tune! You can keep working on it and re record and I am sure you will get a great feedback!
