Posted the first season a while back, but that was more on the history of shred guitar. Looks like the second season has started to come out and it goes in-depth into the technique of picking etc.

Here's season 1 for those who haven't seen it.

This is very interesting! I haven't seen the previous one but I have bookmarked both to see them later. It must be cool to see how this style of playing was developed and words from the real protagonists of this movement that has improved lots of played around the world.

This thread makes me want to ask you guys a question.

Who is your favorite shredder and why?

Never seen these before, thanks for posting. Looks really good.

I watched his video where he broke down steve vai's solo from crossroads, it was excellent. I cant play it but it was really interesting to watch. I also like how he shreds the Les Paul smile.gif

gab, favourite shedder.... has to be Buckethead for me. I really like the way he can build on a creepy cold sounding melodic atmosphere then just shred the hell out of it!

so am I correct that the first episode of season 2 is free and you pay for the rest of the season which currently is released approximately every month?
Im guessing episode 2 and so on wont be appearing on YouTube anytime soon.

seems fair enough, that first episode was excellent. Im keen to see the rest.

All episodes are free, donations are optional; at least it was like that last season. I think you're just paying for extras like tabs.

The 1st season was all free but the 2nd season (apart from the first episode) is paid for.

And you know what, Fair enough. Looking at the first season there was alot of work put into it. If you want quality there should be a fee. Good on him

If there were medals for that you, him and pretty much every instructor here would be knee deep in them.

I actually just bought the subscription to season 2. Had a chat to Troy. Really great and approchable guy.

Its an intresting watch with some helpful info on shedding but its all shredding, nowhere near as diverse as here.

On the note of watching other vids not on here going through some of the instructors youtube vids can prove intresting tongue.gif

Yeah, something I noticed since I got all his vids now is that when he picks he seems to rest the pick on the next string.

Is that normal?
Is it even recomended?
Working on improving my picking so if this is a good practice thing I will work on adding it to my style

Its a great idea that camera.

I do it sometimes. It's more likely to happen if you use a downward picking angle like he talks about in the vid.

Ok so its more of one of those things that just happens not something to aim for.

In saying that i've never really had a huge pick angle. probably around 30 degrees instead of the normal 45 that people say you should have. dunno I've tried adjusting it to more 45 but it just feels unnatural and messes with my palm mutes.
