My Guitar Doesn't Stay Tuned Options

Hello folks,

I've bought a guitar recently (wich I have already post pics), but I found out that I had a lot of problem keeping it in tune. I didn't notice that little problem until I begin to record myself.

I can't keep the G and the B string in tune, they go off pitch after 1 or 2 bend. Don't worry I have strecth my string plenty of time and I also played enough to loose the new sting tone.

I know they did a pretty quick job at the store so I was wondering if they didn't string the guitar properly. I'm saying this cause when I turn the key the pitch doen't change immedietly, I have to turn it a bit further and then it gets to high or to low. Usually I use a technique that allows me to lock the string around the post.

Another interesting thing is that once my G or B string get out of tune, they both stay in that out of tune position it doen't get better or worst.

If anyone could help me with this problem..

This sounds like that's the problem. Is your guitar with floyd rose or fixed bridge? If it's with the floyd rose then the springs are sometimes the problem. Try changing those 2 strings first and see if that can solve it.

I don't have a floyd Rose Guitar

I should have mentioned that I own an American Standard Stratocaster.

Could be the strings get stuck in the nut. You could "grease"i it up with graphite. The string(s) could also be slipping at the trem where it's stuck.
But try the nut first, I think that's more likely. If greasing doesn't do the trick they could be too narrow for the strings. Take it to the store and ask them to file them up if they agree the nut could be the problem.

If it wasn't such a hellish adventure, I'd suggest going back to the store and kicking their @#4's. I would take it somewhere else and have it set up, those other guys obviously don't know jack about a good setup.

Also, just checking, but did you exercise the strings? Take a few minutes and work the whammy bar back and forth to stretch the strings out a bit. That might help.

Yeah man the service in this store is really bad, If it continue I'm goin to see a Luther

I've also try to play with the whammy bar but It got worst I think. It seems like bot string going lower than before.

Keep working it man, with my other guitar I put a tiny bit of oil on the nut to help them slide and it helped a bit. This is the second time I've heard graphite works, so maybe try that?

Do you have the bridge sitting on the body when the whammy is at rest?

Do you use the tremolo on the strat? If not, you can tighten it all the way in the back to touch the body. This way you will be able to do whammy effects only downwards, but you will at least be in tune. Try tightening the 2 screws on the back of the guitar, and put springs in position as showed on the picture bellow.

No I don't really use the tremolo on my strat. I have replace he spring and tigthen up the 2 screws but the G string still doesn't stay in tune.
