I thought I'd start a thread for folks interested in exploring the use of "Mobile" technologies for Music Production. I've been using an Iphone (as it is basically an iPod) and recently an iPad (now with the Alesis Dock) for creating music, sounds, etc. The range of tools is just insane and it's been almost overwhelming trying to get a grip on it. So I thought' I'd start the thread with some pix of a new bit of kit I've been working with. The Alesis Studio Dock.
This piece of gear is a doc for an ipad 1 or 2 and provides XLR / Guitar Jack in / Out (Finally!) So you can record directly using Guitar Rig Mobile or any plugin you like. I've been downloading wads of them and hope to try each in turn. Here are some pics of the Alesis dock. I"m still experimenting with it. More to come!
Cool! look forward to some info on all this stuff. Looking at getting an Ipad 2 currently. How much did the dock set you back?
Damn ,great gadget and very affordable price ! thanks Todd !
Awesome! I didn't know that this type of equipment exists.. thanks Todd!
AMPKIT+ for (iPad and iPhone)
INFO @

I have been experimenting with an APP called AMPKIT for iPad and iPhone. I'm just shocked how good it is for a "Mobile" App. The tone is Impressive. I honestly think it might work for a live gig. You can download it for FREE from the apple store if you have an iOS device. Here are a couple of recordings on stock patches. I read about ALEX SKOLNICK using it for warming up backstage at gigs and thought I'd try it. It RAWKS.

Second tone on the way....
Very interesting piece of kit Todd, and not costing that much either. Thanks for sharing this
Did they create some online store or something? This is where the real money is. I noticed that you can buy models online, so this is the right move. IK Multimedia is doing the same thing now with Amplitube 3.
How about this, REAPER on iPad! : ) It's running on my my laptop with an app the makes the ipad in to a second monitor. So it also makes REAPER a "touch" app. You just tap the screen to record, play, change level. Pretty cool!
Awesome feature Todd!
I just bought an Ipad 2 for my kids.. was wondering what kind of goodies were availble for modeling / recording. I was also wondering if the processor could keep up with the demand and not be a latency laggard.
I was just checking out the Alesis IO dock the other day in new Sweetwater Catalog.. looks nice and simple.
I will be watching so please keep posting
Thanks Todd,
Gary
Yeah more demos of these interesting hardware addons would be great man!
Back through some of the posts above to see what we've covered so far with the Alesis Dock. It's AWESOME! More to come.

Don't forget the handy little Tascam iXz! I have one of these and it's killer SUPPORTS XLR INPUT For microphones or any other XLR cable based input as a bonus! It;s the most flexible for around the same $50 price point.

These are compatible with IPOD, iPHONE, and IPAD. So for about fifty euro/dollars, your ready to jump in to mobile music production I'm gonna have to make a post about this!
Todd
I started this post as a reply to Cosmin when I saw him asking which Delay pedal to buy. But it seems better suited for the iPad/iPod/iPhone thread

VIRTUAL STOMP BOXES AND iOS
If you have an iPhone/iPod/iPad, you can get the IK STOMP BOX which is a very versatile device indeed. You can load any FX you'd like on it and it can become one of dozens of possible fx boxes and acts just like a stomp box It uses your iOS device as it's brains so the device must remain connected though.

OR!!!!!!
The Digitech iSTOMP!!!! Which does all processing in the PEDAL ITSELF so you download your stomp box to the pedal and then you don't need to bring your iphone/pod. The pedal is actually programmed and behaves like a standard pedal. The IK device needs to be connected to an iphone/ipod since it's just an interface really
