Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Eddie Van Halen: Beat It Solo by Marius Pop

I had to make a little change at the end of the solo because my guitar only has 21 frets! I play the last note as a harmonic on the fifth fret.. I know it doesn't sound as good as the original... but hey... What can a poor boy do? :D

Hi, great take ! This is a very hard solo to get right and you almost nailed it.. just a couple of places where it sounded a bit weak.. at 0:21 (just needs more control to make it sound stronger, it faded away a bit) and the last tapping lick was a bit messy, with unwanted string noise.

Some of the phrases were timed differently than the lesson but that can be personal interpretation so no worries there.

All in all, very good ! cool.gif

I would say that was pretty good! I love the bends and the overall hard picking on the strings. Keep that!

You just need to a bit more careful with the muting of the strings in between the phrases. So, pay attention to your right hand mostly, it must be almost at all times over the strings not the bridge.

Strong and very good advice from Ben and Daniel! Now, as Daniel said, you must pay a little extra attention to the unwanted noise, just because you are using a single coil guitar, which has a lot of noise by default! Otherwise, aside from the slight slips here and there, the take is very good! You have that fire in your hands, but take care, fire can also burn smile.gif so, learn how to tame it and use it to your advantage!

Great take, with minor problems - unwanted sounds, attempt to eliminate them as soon as possible and it will be great!!

Very good attempt on this one, and the tone is OK, whammy sounds very good. You need to work a bit more on tapping/legato licks and remove unwanted noises from the take.

The take has some part that need work but I enjoyed it a lot! I like your attitude, your tone and vibrato. Work on the trickier parts and you'll surely get a 10 on this one.
