So I've been in the beginner's section awhile and I've enjoyed it. I know the scale although I can't play them too fast without messing up (like 1/8ths on 80bpm). I'm just not sure if that's enough speed to move on or not. I know it will build as I go. Just wanted to see everyone else's opinion since I'm getting bored (I'm a perfectionist though).

I'm going to look at some legato lessons by Pavel since I need to practice my pulloffs. I use a metronome for pretty much everything now and that practice schedule lesson help enlighten me on the concepts of warming up and not hurting yourself.

Consequently, I think it would be a good idea to put something like that up in the beginner's section along with a bunch of do's and don'ts. I know I've hurt my wrist (not badly, just strained) from playing too much, too fast, and with bad form.

Yeah, so I'm practicing pulloffs right now and I havn't really been playing that long but I don't want to form bad habits, ya know?

Anyways, when I'm trying to do a pulloff, either I can't pulloff well enough to get a nice, sharp sound or when I do I end up striking the string below.

Should I just keep practicing through it or is there something I might be doing wrong?

Hey, first off, this site kicks ass.

Second, I'm completely new so I want to make sure I don't develop any bad habits.

I'm trying to make sure not to palm the neck and come straight down with my fingers but I'm still getting use to it.

When I play, I tend to always look at the strings I'm picking. Is this good or bad? Should I not look at anything or at fingering the notes?

When I look at the notes I need to play it seems to slow me down. If I don't look at the strings I miss them sometimes. Will I start getting muscle memory on where the strings are?

I'm working on the scales right now. I'm still kinda confused on how to incoporate those into the tabs an such but I JUST started playing electric like 2 days ago and played a little acoustic with no formal training before that.

I figure I'll just get it to where I can run up and down the scales real well without making almost any mistakes then I can start messing with them. It's the mechanical way, I know, but you can't improvise stuff you don't know.

Thanks for the help and I hope I have this in the right place.

Just wanted to say hey to everyone.

Just joined up and bought me a badass guitar.

I love it so far. Feel like I've learned a lot already.

Expect to hear more from me, I'm sure. biggrin.gif
