GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ What Just Happened To Uk Prices?

Posted by: MickeM Jan 5 2012, 12:40 PM

Was browsing a couple of amps and they made an enormous skip in price just since past week. An Orange AD30 HTC went from around 700 up to 1100 GBP and a Marshall 1987x went from like 790 up to 1000. That's 20% up in on the Marshall and close to 60% up for the Orange.
I can't remember the exact prices but the Orange could have been at even 690 and the Marshall a little more than 800 but somewhere around there.

Are my eyes and mind playing tricks on me or did the VAT double/triple or something for 2012? It's not even funny anymore the UK prices.
Anyone with some insight?

Now the AD30 is down to 950 and the 1987x is down to 877. I'm guessing it is a price increase going on but kind of glitchy systems. I saw this on other sites too. Possibly they are all wtching eachother and updating by automatic and somewhere someone did a too large faulty increase and other price systems just followed.

Better buy them while they are still available, in 10 years they will be worth a fortune biggrin.gif

Sounds weird...just out of curiosity I checked some german sites but the prizes were stable all these last weeks.
The only prices here that go up (and sometimes down) are the ones for gas wink.gif

Did you compare the UK prizes with other european prizes? Maybe check www.thomann.de and www.musik-proudktiv.de , they all have english sites as well.

It is the start of a new year. Most companies hike their prices around this time. Steinway and Sons Piano company had a 5%(?) increase at the start of this quarter so they could compete with inflation rates. I know that Fender does it pretty often and if I recall, Yamaha is doing it this year too. I am sure other companies will.

When I finally ssave up $2600 for my PRS it is probably going to be more like $3100 unsure.gif

Maybe its to make up for losses last year, or just raising them again after the christmas discounts.

You might find that they are accounting for the up-coming budget when Fuel prices will rise and everything will get more expensive!!

Now I think Marshall brand amps made some uncalled for price jumps. I suspect it has to do with new releases from NAMM. Distributors increase the prices now only to be able to drop it back to what it used to be for old models when the new ones are released.
