GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Rocksmith And Or Fretlight

hello, I wonder has anyone else kept up using these things with ya normal practice and GMC lessons?
I have rocksmith and they recently added Pearl jam songs *fist pumps*
I always had a problem with playing out peoples music (LMAO my old piano teacher used to go nuts) but I found that rocksmith
has actually aided me with memorizing the notes of certian songs. The main thing I liked is that each song is actually transcribed by the original band members/producers of said songs.
The main thing about Rocksmith isn't the song though its the mini games, they are aimed at building your finger muscles and memory.
anyway I sound like a commercial but I was just curious on who else is using these things along with GMC
p.s. I never used the fretlight but it looks cool.

I have the game. I like it because it allows me to start 5 or 6 songs in a row and gives you a basic score of how well you did. Instant feedback is a big help in getting better. Though as an absolute beginner it would be frustrating trying to pick up new techniques because the instruction is so poorly done. The games are fun but there aren't enough. Also most of the games go back to the beginning every time so you have to play through the SL

I'd say it helped me pick the guitar back up very quickly though. Especially for endurance. I haven't played it lately but then again I haven't played much at all lately. Worth sticking an any intermediates schedule for a while.

I want RockSmith for PC... but it's been delayed and im getting impatience 
Ask Todd about the Fretlight axe, looks pretty sweet.
Then again, wheither or not they help, it comes down to the player and practice!

I think this can definitely help, although I never tried it. But my experience comes from practicing on a keyboard that had LED diodes on top of the keys, and they lit when the time came to play the key. Backing track just adapted to the tempo of the pressed keys, and in no time I learned Fur Elise, and other classical pieces. I was just a kid then, and it was very fun, probly lot more fun then some teacher showing me bunch of notes or something

I have Rocksmith and enjoy it greatly as an "addition" to my regular practice.
It is nice to have whole songs with different parts to play. Have you tried the multi-player yet? I wish you could do it online instead of local.

I think ROCKSMITH is a GREAT idea. It's not for everyone, and some folks are almost violently against things like that and FRETLIGHT etc. But personally, I think anything that helps a student learn is a good thing. Anything that encourages practice is also a good thing. Not everyone learns the same way, or at the same speed, some folks are not helped by these types of devices/games, those people should avoid them. For those that are, embrace them!
I have a FRETLIGHT and it works with GUITAR PRO so that when playing back tablature, I can see it on the frets. I don't need this features as much as some of my students might but I appreciate that it's there. I really wish some of these tools were availabe when I was just starting out.

Wow Todd, that's actually a very nice looking fretlight guitar!!
I always wanted one, but never actually played one. I imagine it could be QUITE helpful for me, to learn more advanced riffs (well, to speed up the "memorization" portion of learning) and also to help with my theory side of learning.
Maybe someday, if I find a cheap one!!

This is actually a Prototype of the "Pro" model which isn't for sale yet. (Full Disclosure, I"m Endorsed by Fretlight) This model will available soon and it was my fav from everything that was available. It plays really well and I love the finish on the body.here is a better pic of the body. It's got a nice quilted maple top.

The irony of the situation, which cracks me up.....

Although, the biggest downside would be learning on a guitar OTHER than my main axe (97 parker nitefly). Some people can drift between a few guitars, but my performance suffers greatly unless I am committed 100% to my "gig-rig". So ultimately, I may not end up using a fret light very much.
Can you hook it up to learning "games"? For example, to help learn intervals in each key? THAT would be awesome for me!!
Out of curiosity, how much would one of us expect to pay for a NICE fretlight, such as yours? Approximate $$ is fine.

Life is kinda funny like that right? The good news is that they have a new line that is much more affordable than the Pro line. The pro line models are a bit pricey for a learning tool. But I do believe in it as a product which is why I contacted them to start with. I was curious after seeing their web site, and once they sent me one, I was sure this could help students so I try to share it every chance I get.
It works best with Guitar Pro 6. I don't know of any games in specific. But it's a standard guitar so it would work with ROCK SMITH for sure. It makes a pretty spiff stage guitar actually just because of the LED lights. If it's not doing a scale or something, it just sort of does a "chase" back and forth which looks spiff during a solo IMHO Here is a vid.
BTW: The "STANDARD" Model is only $399 Brand New! It's the "Pro" Model which is a bit pricey at $1200.

thanks for the info. I've been looking at the fretlight but i'm havign fun with the Rocksmith and I can say it is a great addition with regular practices and GMC. an added benefit is that every 2 weeks they release a set of 3 songs. This month so far got 3 Doors Down and shessh its difficult but I found myself actually getting some of "Loser" and Kyptonite out. the p.c. version
would be a hella lot better considering they might add an upload your own song deal. I really foudn myself being able to
pick up the guitars at work and just strum along with the radio or actually keep up with some of the tabs aroudn the internet XD

I gotta say, anything that encourages extra practice is a good thing
The more popular ROCKSMITH gets, the more people want to play guitar and play better, and that's awesome. Even GUITAR HERO which is nothing like playing guitar, generated lots of interest from students who went on to play. Some of course, found out how hard really playing is by comparison and bailed. That fretlight guitar is really nice. I wouldn't mind owning one, I'm sure it would help me discover new patterns and licks in my scales
