The pickup combo in question is truly KILLER for metal. Hard to beat in terms of overall aggressive tone.. smile.gif

But $800 for a schecter seems a bit high? Are you a fan of their guitars in general? Some folks love the way they play, some folks don't. The necks taking some getting used to imho. I'd say play something similar or drive to where ever you can find that carries one before you put that kind of money down.

Also, you could get that pickup combo and throw it in just about any guitar and get really heavy tone. You could find a used schecter for quite a bit cheaper.

If you are really heading for the shecter i'd say look VERY close at the KEITH MERROW SIGNATURE guitar. IT's got a great neck and the pickups are the BLACK WINTER set which are killer! smile.gif It's got a thin neck for a shecter, 19mm at the nut which is on the thicker side of some ibanez necks.

The Keith merrow is nice. I've played the older black jacks and they felt good to me. I'm used to big necks. I have a les Paul traditional with a 50s neck and it's quite big. Maybe I just got used to it. Have you ever played a ibanez prestige rga 321f?

Sure smile.gif ANY prestige ibby is a guitar I'd be proud to own smile.gif The one you mention has the Wizard Prestige neck which is one of the thicker necks in the ibby line at 19mm at the nut. My 7 string ibby is 19mm at the nut. My 6 string ibby is 17mm at the nut which is a really thin neck.

But it takes all kinds as they say so it really comes down to what you are comfy with. Some folks HATE really thin necks and feel they just don't provide enough resonance or heft. Some folks like em wafer thin. Just depends smile.gif

That MERROW is likely to keep it's value better than most shecters as it's built and plays more like a custom shop axe. IT's just a top notch guitar all around. Most other shecters struggle to retain value.
