GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Do You Hate Justin Bieber?
Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jun 12 2012, 06:18 PM
You will think that I live in a bubble but today is the first time that I watched a video and heard a song by Justin Bieber. It seems that he is one of the most hated musicians in the world... at least that is what I can note at Youtube. My conclusion of this video is that he is talented and that his product is very well done.
Do you hate him? Why?
Posted by: Opetholic Jun 12 2012, 06:26 PM
I don't hate him but I don't understand all the popular media attention he gets. Similarly for many other people like him...
Posted by: ringmar Jun 12 2012, 06:29 PM
Nah. Why hate him? He's reasonably talented and got lucky. There's lots of music in this world I can't stand, doesn't make me "hate" the person that makes it. Bieber makes a lot of people feel good. Whether you believe it's all canned and produced or not, at the end of the day it doesnt' really matter. I just like what I like and do my own thing. Spending time and energy hating is pointless.
Posted by: Ulrik Jun 12 2012, 06:46 PM
Yes!
but not the person, just the music and concept... and that's off course just my taste
Posted by: Ben Higgins Jun 12 2012, 06:47 PM
No, I don't hate him or any other musician that produces music I don't like. It's not fair to hate anyone, really. If you put that energy out there in the world, then you should be prepared to expect the same to come back to you.
Do I dislike his music and the pop culture he's involved in ? Oh yes
Posted by: thefireball Jun 12 2012, 07:00 PM
Same here. I don't hate they guy, but he's way too young to be singing about what he sings about. Plus, his voice just gets on my nerves!! I guess you would just have to like this style first.
Posted by: Gitarrero Jun 12 2012, 07:09 PM
Let's face it, we are simply the wrong audience for him and his styl of music. In my opinion he (or rather the producers behind him) are pretty clever and discovered the biggest market for any musician: teenage girls.
Ben, just imagine your success if The Reckoning played slightly other music and looked just slightly different than now...then again, you probably wouldn't be on this site and we would have never heard of Donuts...

Posted by: bleez Jun 12 2012, 07:21 PM
He really is not very talented. I heard him sing unaccompanied on a radio show not so long ago and I was surprised at how below average he is. He is well marketed and very lucky. I dont hate him but I have no time for him or his type of 'product'.

I can't really say I hate anyone. There are people I like and people I don't like. Hate is a strong word... Bieber is just a boy who got successful and he should be respected for that. He's a product of a well-organized institution, not the first nor the last one!
What annoys me though are the comments about him ALL.OVER.THE.INTERNET. Positive or negative, it doesn't really matter - I don't listen to that music and I don't need to be shoved with it in the face every single day...
Posted by: SirJamsalot Jun 12 2012, 08:19 PM
It's not his music I hate. It's his ego. BUT - if you got it, flaunt it right? So I can't fault him for that. I just don't like pride on display is all.

I actually like Justin Bieber because he has managed to get uptight musicians all bent out of shape. Its hilarious to watch grown men have their ego destroyed by a little boy that looks like a lesbian.
He's living every musicians dream: Arena tours, girls, money, girls, fast cars, girls, a big mansion, girls, vacations in exotic places, girls - and in between that exciting lifestyle, he actually manages to pick up girls.
All this is achieved because he successfully sells his character. As we've discussed in a previous thread, when it comes to selling your music, character is equally as important, if not even more important than the music itself.

I've never heard a song of Bibier, this is the first one! And yes, now I hate him
Posted by: casinostrat Jun 13 2012, 01:09 AM
I've truthfully never heard a song by Bieber (to my knowledge anyway) mostly cause all the music I listen to comes from my own Ipod or my Pandora radio stations (mostly Blues, Hard Rock, and Classic Rock stuff). Haven't really avoided it, just sort of worked out that way. I should probably listen to something by him but I'm afraid I may not like it..........or even worse, I may actually like it!
seriously though, I really have no opinion regarding him.

not a fan of his music, so i really don't bother to care
Posted by: SpaseMoonkey Jun 13 2012, 02:39 AM
I don't feel so bad, I never heard of him until I seen them talk about him on the Cleveland Show. They made some jokes of him looking like a girl, but also that his music got stuck in people's heads so they enjoyed how catchy it was.
I'm pretty rough on music, I feel that everyone has their own taste in music. Some may like it some may not. But I dislike the music not the people, because they may be talented just not to my taste in styles. And Bieber is on that not my taste, but thats his music, because I can't judge a person I've never held a conversation with.
Posted by: Ben Higgins Jun 13 2012, 08:21 AM
Yeah it's funny.. I also haven't actually heard his music yet but I just know that I don't like it already !

Let's face facts here, ever since they began selling Records there have been pre-manufactured Pop Stars aimed specifically at certain demographics. This was very prevalent through the 80's and 90's (especially in England with Stock, Aitkin and Waterman and in America with NKOTB et all!!) and are evn more evident these days. Record Companies are there to make money and this is just an example of a carefuly chosen product which has been very successfully marketed and produced!!
To be a bit more blunt I could quote Paul Simon from 'The Boy in the Bubble':- "Every generation throws a hero up the Pop Chart!"
Posted by: tonymiro Jun 13 2012, 09:11 AM
Just as Neil says above. It's his ten minutes of fame. He'll be last years thing pretty soon and in ten years time people will be saying, 'Justin who?'
60s had The Monkees, 70s had Bay City Rollers/Osmonds, 2000s had lots of Irish boy bands
Having said that... despite being the target demographic and despiteavidely reading various teen magazines my 12 year old daughter can't stand him. She's more in to 60's stuff (The Kinks, The Who, Small Faces and The Stones) and Reggae though.
Posted by: PosterBoy Jun 13 2012, 09:35 AM
He's got good management. And I'm sure he works hard, and probably isn't making that much money at the end of the day. I would think he is just getting perfomance royalties. Management, record company and writers will be getting most of the money made.
If he has any wits about him he will be learning as much as he can about his trade and music business as he can so he can evolve in his career. Stick around in the recording studio and not just sing his parts and go etc.
JT managed to become a credible artist after being in a boyband, where he has more control over his music rather than just being a record company's puppet.

I actually just watched the video. I have a few observations and questions:
1. Is he old enough to drive? 2. He plays guitar better than Lil Wayne. 3. Do those little girls parents know they are dressed like that?! 4. Justin Beiber (or somebody on the video) has very good taste in automobiles. 5. He actually has a good voice, in my opinion. 6. After seeing those scantily clad girls, I am, more than ever, glad my wife and I have a son. 7. And now, I have that stupid song stuck in my head!!!

Hate is such a strong word
Too be honest I don't pay much attention to all the Bieber hype. He's the "it" guy for the 5-15 yr old girls. When I was a kid it was New Kids on the Block and scores of others. Pop music needs to sell and who better to sell too then kids who's parents will spend copious amounts of cash to keep them happy. Beiber tickets, Beiber dolls, Beiber posters... etc. But hey good on him for making it whether ya like him or not he's doing what he loves and getting paid for it.
Oh and it's not just parents spending cash... this aunt(me ) just paid $175 bucks so that her 6 yrs old niece can have back stage passes to see Mr. Beiber.... the response was a very loud and ear piercing squeal and a "best ever aunt" chant. So thanks Beibs... my niece thinks I'm cooler than the other side of the pillow thanks to you
I also love this

Yes, he is certainly living every musicians dream. He has everything he would love too had. He is my age, for people of my age. Here's what the stand on him is. Its divided
Some guys (like me) HATE him, for being so untalented, not having his voice changed, girly looking, yet having so much money and girls around him. My brother says I sound a lot like Adam Gontier (of Three Days Grace, don't know how true is this statement, maybe 1% ) And he or even me would make a great pop singer, had I not fallen into Rock and Metal. But I am glad I have. I love what I am musically fallen into, no remorse
The second group, ACTUALLY LIKES AND ADMIRES HIM. And therefore, they get more lucky, and popular with girls and overall in the school. And even make fun of guys like me just hide the talent and goodness. (everyone in my school except me and 3-4 others fall into this category )
And for the girls, mostly like him, sorry love him.

Not temperature, the weight. Some medical info for all you guys. (Maybe some of you know, who had Bio in high school )
There are 2 sex chromosomes, X (heavier) and Y (lighter). Men have one copy of each. Women have two X and no Y. A sperm has only one, either X or Y, ovum has X, always. Since a sperm with X is slightly heavier than one with Y, it'll more likely fertilize and Therefore, more likely to have a girl.

THIS IS TRUE. As mother nature made it, there should be more girls, but due to some evil stuffs, which I won't mention on the forum, there are more boys.
In India, there are approx 840 girls per 1000 boys as of 2011 census.

The information is correct, however, incomplete and the conclusion is not quite correct. It is a much more delicate issue than you would think... The X chromosome is slightly heavier, that is correct. On the other hand being heavier they are therefore slower. Y chromosomes are faster. So naively you would think that the sperm with the Y chromosome would reach the egg first. However, Y chromosomes on the average have smaller lifetimes! Also the Y chromosomes prefer alkaline conditions as compared to the X chromosome.. Therefore it is a very delicate balance and it all very much depends on the time of the fertilization process and many other conditions like temperature, number of male sperms, how deep they are ejaculated and so on... Sorry if I am being too explicit here but trying to avoid urban legends

I think it is sad that people judge other people by music. Think about it, music is about feeling, emotion, can make people happy.
If you make people happy with your music, I think its good and I can't hate on that. Its just that Justin bieber's music doesn't interest me.
Posted by: Todd Simpson Jun 16 2012, 09:16 AM
I think many folks/musicians, sort of HATE what he represents in terms of "product" that is pre-sold, predictable, formulaic, inauthentic, etc.
He can actually play instruments, and can compose music. But what he's been packaged and sold as, is easy to become a bit sickened by. Such obvious tween girl spending bait. It's almost hard not to be offended by some aspects of it. It doesn't urge me to violence, personally. But it sure is icky.
There are some parallels between JUSTIN BEIBER and OLA ENGLUND! (Believe it or not
JUSTIN (Satan's Spawn) *Started on Youtube *Got discovered by someone (American Rapper/Producer) *Went on tour *Made Millions
OLA (Satan's Rythm Guitar Player) *Got discovered by someone (No, not by Satan, by SIX FEET UNDER, close but not the same) *Went on tour *Made enough money to buy new strings.

I think most of his fans are girls from 10-13 or so . just my take. Still have yet to meet a guy who is a fan of him, or an adult . You don't have to hate him but you don't have to like him either .

There are guys who like him, and admire him. Read my earlier post in this topic
So, this should be the last post on this thread. Good bye Justin.

[quote name='Gabriel Leopardi' date='Jun 12 2012, 12:18 PM' post='589518'] You will think that I live in a bubble but today is the first time that I watched a video and heard a song by Justin Bieber. Do you hate him? Why?
I don't hate him, anymore than I hate cockroaches. In fact I just captured one in my garage and put it outside today, I do that sometimes with bugs. I would do the same for Justin Bieber. I have never listened to him. I don't have to listen to him to know that he is crap, any more than I have to sniff a dog's butt to know it is a dog. Some things are self evident at a glance.

He's stealing other people's crappy songs and making them sound well better than they where (as G rated) at 8 years old:
