Posted by: muntahunta Sep 4 2009, 01:29 PM

I have just finished recording this song and it doesnt sound quite right to me, Id like some suggestions on how to make it better through either re-mixing or re-recording things

Note: the drums are EZ Drummers DFH

Updated Version of the mix:  Act_Of_Silence___Down_01.mp3 ( 5.38MB ) : 350

Great song and AWESOME singing!!!!! smile.gif

Here are few things that I would add tho,
panning riff guitar (or guitars) left and right so the vocal is "free".
And cymbals, throw few on the beginning of sections, after fills too, they do miss. smile.gif

Also , Chris, check out T-racks demo for mastering. It's only a 15 day trial and you may want to buy afterwords. Really can make a difference in your overall quality. There are some really good pre-programed settings so you can jump right in..

Great song I like it

You need to do some EQing, guitars are overloading the range a bit. Put them in stereo as Muris suggested, and cut off all bellow 100Hz, and in the hi mid region where the vocals are. Sweep the range until you hear the vocals loud an clear in every moment.
The hihat in the first part is a bit generic, possibly enriching it a bit, and lower down the volume, doesn't have to be that loud.

the overal mix is a bit bassy, so clearing up the low end range with EQ might be a good idea to balance things out. Later on you can add bass during the mastering if you want.

Oh my - even though I have already heard really good stuff from you, this blew me away. And yes singing is very very good!

I agree with what's been said - when you have made the suggested adjustments you should also be able to raise guitars (or lower vocals) to get a heavier mix. I suspect that if you do it now - you vocal lines will get drowned.

Thanks for the inspiration!

ok, I have panned the guitars, lowered the bass, cut off 100Hz on the guitars and done a sweep on the hi-mid frequensies on the guitars.

I may add the things to drums later on, but that will have to wait till im on my other computer tongue.gif

ill update the thread at the top to contain a new version of the mix if you guy's wouldnt mind having another listen for me?

thanks for all the comments smile.gif

Riffs sound much better now, they are mostly in the mids so they come out nicely in the mix.

Now try to focus on the drums as I beleive they need to most work now. Try to enrich the beginning a bit with cymbals, and lower down a bit the hihat and make it more dynamic with velocity.
