If you are an apple user, and have not tried LOGIC, now it is in the "App Store" and only $199 and still comes with hundreds of gigabytes of additional content such as loops, libraries, instruments, midi, fx, etc. It is quite simply the best DAW I've ever touched and has the richest feature set of any DAW I've even heard about. Beyond Pro Tools, Beyond, Reaper, Cubase, etc. It's honestly the pinnacle of software recording technology IMHO. The fact that Apple will sell it for the cost of a plugin is staggering.

It works with Video as welll. You can score feature films with it. So doing audio for video collabs is a snap smile.gif

I was really only talking to Mac folks here. If you are not a Mac user already, buying an entire system just to use certain software is just too expensive in most cases. But if you have already invested in a Mac, and don't have LOGIC, your missing out on the best DAW for the Apple platform. And now that it costs less than many standard plugins, it merits a looks.

I'm using Logic for all my recordings I absolutely love it!!!
The only thing that is kinda annoying is that Logic runs AU plugins instead of VST like pro tools and some good plugins have only VST
The good thing is that with Logic you are not gonna be limited with tracks like in pro tools LE and if you will go with apogee products you will not have any problems with logic!!!

A good point! It's an APPLE product so it's all AU plugins, all the time. So far, all my plugins are AU compatible, but there are some killer plugins out there that are VST only.

Also a great point about PRO TOOLS LE, the track limitation is a real knock against pro tools. At a similar price point, you can have unlimited tracks in LOGIC.

The Apogee stuff is great in general! They use quality parts and have really good pre-amps built in. A fine choice for any DAW.

One thing to note is that Apple decoupled MainStage from Logic. It is also in the App Store for $30.

Another great point smile.gif For those that don't know, MAINSTAGE is sort of like GUITAR RIG but made by Apple and works really well with LOGIC. However, for the same money I would have to suggest OVERLOUD TH1 TRIODE in it's place, but that's just me :smile.gif

Here is a sample from a custom TH1 patch I just uploaded. Enjoy!

some good plugins have only VST

These days it's extremely rare for a plugin to be available in VST but not audio unit. If you have one though, you can use FXpansion's VST-AU adapter to create an AU version of it.

This is the second dramatic price reduction of Logic since Apple bought it. When you consider the quality and variety of plugins it includes, the value is really amazing. At some point, unfortunately, this will probably start killing the competition. For anybody working primarily in audio processing, cubase IMHO still has the advantage of better audio editing and mixing, and probably always will until Logic is rewritten from scratch. And it probably will be rewritten. Steve Jobs reportedly nearly had an apoplexy when he saw Logic's user interface :-).

FULL VERSION, no catch smile.gif The truth is, software is a really competitive segment and with players like REAPER essentially giving their product away, the competition is fierce. Also, with Apple the APP STORE means they dont' have to print up CD/DVD sets or paper user manuals which makes the software nearly free (beyond bandwidth) for them to distribute.

A perfect storm of market forces essentially. So take advantage! I never thought LOGIC PRO would be available at this price point. It was around a thousand bucks not to long ago.

I was a Pro Tools fan and been using since 2005. But recently I switched to Logic mainly coz their annoying anti piracy usb key. You have to stick it to run it and you cannot use another USB port properly. I have spent enough and man even to upgrade, you have to pay like 300 bucks. If you don't love your customers, well you get what you sow. Now, I m a Logic fan. Works like a breeze and it works very well with my Axe Fx II as well. Great news its just 199 now, wow!!

If its a new version, I guess you will have to upgrade as with anything. But I am sure you don't have to pay heavily like others. smile.gif

BINGO! PRO TOOLS is a bit too hung up on USB KEY/DONGLE thing and it's really annoying. Some plugins even try that same crap! I refuse to participate in that. To each his own and all, but having to lug hardware keys around and switching them betwen rigs is just a massive pain and I just won't do it. So yeah, LOGIC RULES! Software authorization only, no usb dongles! And enough plugins built in right out the gate to get you started. smile.gif

At this price point, it just KILLS! 200 bux is practically giving it away given the quality and feature set. It even does full surround sound mixing if you want. smile.gif

If they upgrade I doubt it will be soon. They just now put LOGIC 9 in the APP STORE. When they do upgrade, I'm guessing the price will be about half the APP cost. But honestly, at this price point, who cares? Let' em upgrade it smile.gif
