Time for another cool video collaboration!! This time featuring groovy funky track! Have fun with this track, jam a bit and join in!
For all veteran collaborators, this is another video collaboration, and I will put together a nice video mix of all of us playing over this track, should be cool! For those who are collaborating for the first time, here are couple of simple guidelines:
- Listen to the track
- Jam a bit to find something interesting (check the bottom of this post for some scale recommendations for this one)
- Record yourself playing over the track with a webcam
- While recording with a webcam, record a solo track of your guitar in a separate program, and send it separately as an audio file (this will help me get better tone when I mix)
- For any questions, feel free to ask, I'll be glad to help!
Here are general collaboration guidelines:
Collab type: video
Key: F#
Deadline: 30th of November
Tempo: 120bpm
Scale recommendations:
F# minor pentatonic:

Hmmm...never done funk before, but I'll give it a try and see if I can do it. Nobody's joined?

Excellent! Thank you very much Todd! Awesome take and sound, really diggin it!
Ok Ivan. Here's my take.
I kept this one pretty simple. The rhythm chords were actually tougher than I thought they'd be. My playing there sounds ok in the mix, but when you hear the take alone without backing, you can tell it still needs some work to play fluidly. Great backing. I had a lot of fun jamming to this. I should look into some of your Funk lessons for the REC. This is a fun genre.

Great take man! Works well. This is gonna come out great!
I'm really sorry for missing the deadline . I'll record my take tonight if it is still not too late.
Yes, yes, please do mate!
Don't be so hard on yourself, this take is awesome and very effective! Great job man! Thanks a lot for this!

...I guess you're right. But then, when I listen to my recordings, especially the raw guitar track, it always sounds different than I expected it to. I always felt that once I can play it like I can hear it in my head, then I will be getting there.
I'm probably finalizing this tomorrow guys!
Hehe Can't wait!
I'm not too late?
Just in time! Thank you very much! Excellent playing Sinisa!
Sorry, I've failed again . Have been trying to record something for three hours now, but only thing I got is pain in the left wrist.. I just can't play precisely in time, maybe because I'm not used to this style (was trying to use lots of syncopation and abrubtly stopped notes). Again, sorry.
OK man, it's not a problem!
Hey Ivan,
When will we able to see the final result? I'm really excited
Sorry about the delay, very soon (I mean tonight)!
Ok guys, the final mix is done! Some of the takes were longer, some shorter, but I put them all in order. Comments coming tomorrow!
Wow. This turned out awesome
Great job Ivan! Thanks for the work you did. And thanks for fixing my video. I thought I was going to have to use an "artistic" excuse for my sideways video.
Its cool to listen to everyones takes. I don't improvise much, so I have a hard time coming up with one idea. Hearing other peoples ideas really opens things up. That's a great lesson in itself!
Looking forward to your comments on the takes!
Thanks my friend. Unfortunately I've been busy these days a bit, so comments will not be up today, but I will work hard to finish them by tomorrow.
Oki doki, I'll try to do it sooner then later
Hey ,GREAT COLLAB !!! All shots are extra ! Congrats
Awesome playing guys!
After some delays, I have comments for all participants, and working on upgraded version of the collaboration with names. Stay tuned!
1. quadrium:
very cool intro lick, and nice octaves. Simplistic approach with this solo,
and during the solo you used a lot of cool call & responce phrases.
I think you managed to pull out very good solo, but you should be
a bit more careful with the timing.
2. AK Rich
Great intro riff, and fantastic insertion of Hendrix's Third Stone from the Sun,
that really blended nicely! THe rest of the licks in the style of Jeff Beck
were excellent too, nice fit over the chorus part. Structure of the solo is
quite good too, and so is whammy usage. I think a bit more care around
the oriental scale part would make it super effective.
3. Daniel
Excellent groove and following the drums, fantastic blazing runs and
aggressive playing, picking, bending and vibrato. All done very tastefully,
and in your style mate. Well played whammy licks in the second part as well.
I'm guessing this is all improvised, so it makes it even better.
4. Cosmin
Very cool bending licks and really cool "bended-like" playing, that I already
remember as part of your style mate. Great big slides, cool attitude and
nice tone, all important ingredients are there, all sounding very good,
and done with good taste and measure.
5. Todd
Short but effective, we have some of the fastest and meanest licks
onboard in this take, and great theme in the second part.
Excellent playing, good note separation, and solid autofilter signature tone.
Video looks very interesting and fresh because of the added effect.
6. JamesT
Great call & response licks, cool vibrato, and very nice voicings
in the second part. We have one of the better chordal playing
onboard on this take. Take develops later, into more phrases.
This is how a pro rhythm player would play it. One small downside
is that lead licks are repeating possibly a bit too much.
That doesn't takes away from their effectiveness tho.
7. K1R
As always, I will recognize your style, as you have created one
with simple yet super effective phrasing. Excellent playing ala
Frusctiante/BB King, sounds very very good. Getting those
faster passages exaclty in time is the next step for you mate.
8. John72
Very solid playing in the verse with nice ideas all around, but the
solo shines in the chorus section. Really nicely made call & response
phrases, with cool bends up the neck. One thing that would add to
the feel is that those bends are slightly more precise.
9. Sinisa
Fusion-approach with quick bursts, part of your distinctive style,
very good note separation, and polished technique. Good scale
usage, following the progression, and managing to tell 2-3 more
stories along the way to make it interesting.
Thanks for the comments everyone! This was a really great fun collab to be part of!
Thanks alot Ivan! This was a really fun collab man! I still improv to it once in a while cause its such a cool backing. Rock on!!
Rich....
Thanks for the comments Ivan ,great job guys
Thanks for participating here guys!
Thanks for the comments Ivan! Accurate bends are something I need work on for sure! I think I may need interval training or ear training.
This was a great time! Looking forward to the next collab for sure!
Thanks my friend!
Just a a KILLER collab! I've never had so much fun ripping it up over the funk The TH1 Triode "Auto Wah" came in very handy. Thanks for the comments and for all your work on this one. I"m glad to provide all the "Fast and Mean" licks that I can muster!
Thanks mate, pleasure to have you on this collab!
Hey Ivan!
love the Funky Collab remix man nice job!
Thanks mate!
