For those who own Schecter Hellraiser or have played it,

How do you all feel playing bends on C-1 Schecter Hellraiser. It just isn't happening for me. Maybe im lacking finger strength but it seems the strings are just too tight to carry out whole note bends, especially on 1st and 2nd strings, higher notes.

Or is it my guitar that needs to be setup properly? but how? It's a fixed bridge. Im using d'addario .009 strings. I haven't played another schecter before so cant compare.

how is your schecter hellraiser treating you in terms of playing bends?

I have the C1-+ which is basically the same guitar with different pickups and paint job. My bends are not the greatest in the world but I can do them now with out much effort as far as finger strength. I doubt it is your guitar. You probably just need to work on it more...of course as usual. I guess if the action is too high it could cause problems bending which is an easy adjustment to make if you want to try it.

Ask any guitarist (or basketball player) and they'll all tell you: put more fingers on it. More fingers gives you more strength if you are weak but it also gives you more control even when you are strong.

So. Get more fingers behind the one you're trying to bend with. Lock them in place and give your wrist a little turn. You'll to get great sounding bends and you won't injure yourself.

a setup could maybe help a little but bending in the first or second fret is hard in any gutiar, its just physics.
you have a couple of options
a. and the most recommended-practice more and correct you technique, use more fingers and use the wrist for the vibrato and bend motion, also put you thumb above the fret board (like jimmy page or paul gilbert) and it will give you more strength
b. change to thinner strings, if you playing 0.11 go to 0.10, just remember thogh that what you will gain in playability youll loose in tone.
c. use Eflat tuning to make the strigng less tense

Satch, Vai and EVH normally use 9-42s. Do you believe they're lacking in tone? wink.gif

Zen, I would suggest checking your strings and trying a lighter gauge.

Thanks guys, I guess I have to work on finger strength .. i guess i gotta find those Captain of Crush grippers i bought last year and start workin on em smile.gif .. I do add 1 or 2 fingers behind the bend. I do put my hand over the fretboard for whole note bends or else i'm just not able to pull em.

Not too keen to change the tuning of the guitar as most of my exercises and songs are suited to standard E.

Is there a lighter gauge than .009? If yes, any recommendations?

Thanks a ton for the suggestions.. much appreciated..

You already have a light gauge strung to your guitar so that's not the problem!!!

You are simply lacking fingerstrength! Sounds tough but the only solution is, and I am quoting myself here, to man up and dig your fingers into those strings!!!

Bend until you have calluses on your fingertips and then BEND EVEN MORE!

It's just like weightlifting, you have to build up strength until it becomes easy and natural for you to work the strings arround. It shouldn't take too long with 09s; Stevie Ray Vaughan played 13 gauge strings and you never heard him complain while bending!!!
