When you find yourself in a situation where you have an audio drum tracks or poor quality (for example, mics weren't placed well, you aren't satisfied with the tone, or drummer didn't play it quite as he should), you can use triggering to enhance the sound of the drums. Triggering is being usually done on heavier production, specially on kick & snare.

Awesome program from Toontrack enables you to generate MIDI file out of audio drum file - and very easily. I just got this program and used it in couple of mixes, and it does it's job awesome:

Looks interesting. Is it able to generate a midi drum track from an entire mix?
If so, it would be a fantastic way to do covers.

I don't think it can generate track from the entire mix automatically, that seems like an impossible task. But, it has a great editor which is easy to use. So you can set the beats, and make multiple-note MIDI file (i.e. you can map kick & snare in one project and export it into single MIDI file). By watching audio waveform, you can, for example, map the first couple of parts of the song, then go to chorus etc, and in the end, just duplicate everything that's missing in DAW.

On the other side, rendering of single drum files (even if there is bleed) is automatic/almost instant.
