This is a great album, second only to ... And Justice, and I will contest that "Dyers Eve" is possibly the greatest Metallica song ever recorded and it was the last song that I would really consider Metallica a thrash band. The fell to Hard Rock w/ Black and then to Alt Rock w/ Load/Reload/St. Anger.

This is a fantastic album though, no doubt, but I'd give the bass a 10 and the guitars an 8, and the 8 is only because James is such a fantastic rhythm man, Kirk will always be a very watered down Dave Mustaine and is one of the only guitarists I can think of that got worse later in his career. The riffs are brutal on these albums, but the leads leave a little to be desired.

In my opinion, Metallica is the greatest band and MASTER OF PUPPETS is one of the greatest albums! Orion is my favorite song on there!

Ride The Lightning I prefer over this album. Disposable Heroes is my favourite track followed by Damage Inc and Orion. I'd give the album 8.5/10 and Ride The Lightning 9/10. I don't give anything 10/10 however. Great album by a once great band.

I'm afraid i didn't like this album, i'm not entirely sure why but it just didn't do it for me no matter how many times i listened to it. My favorite album is probably ride the lightning

Just wanted to post my two cents on this album here because, with all of my recent "metallica-bashing" in regards to their more recent releases, I really want to say a couple positive things about this band, as they once were.

This album is what made me want to play guitar, the solos in "Master of Puppets" blew my young mind away when I first heard them. I was also very inspired by "To Live is to Die", "Call of Cthulu" and "One" from their other releases in that golden era. I remember how Hammett and Hetfield used to always be the idols that I aspired to be as a young guitarist. And I thought that I'd never come close to their skill level.

However, as I improved (and as Metallica did effectively the opposite) I also started to listen to more advanced and heavier guitar players (first with bands such as Carcass, and then the Swedish invasion of Opeth and Arch Enemy among others) and set my sights progressively higher until I became the frustrated intermediate-ish player that I am today wink.gif

Great album though... I never much cared for Disposable Heroes of Damage Inc tho for some reason.

The title track is worst song on the album I think. It's got it's parts, but the verse riff just doesn't make sense, it's almost as if it doesn't belong (IMHO). But the intro, chorus, and clean riffs are totally kick ass.

The rest of the songs are much better, but still I agree that 'Kill 'Em All' was the best album to date for them.

I stopped listening to metallica after this album.. this is the last one cliff did before he died...

my 3rd favorite metallica album is this one...

1) Kill em all

2) ride the lightning

3) master

thats how i would rank them after that they went downhill

without cliff and dave they got soft

garage isnt bad, only because of the 11 minute tribute song they did for mercyful fate
