Ummm, yeah they are. Melodic death metal is what they're officially categorized as, I think.

I'm not saying they are bad by the way. I don't mind the odd song. I'm just saying that calling them Death Metal is laughable because they aren't.

Wow. just wow. niles songs arent all about death either. if thats how you classify death metal, then i guess no band is death metal, because most, if not all, bands write songs about a wide range of topics. if i wanted to listen to songs about all one thing, i could listen to gangtsa rap, but i dont.

Yes, as that is where the phrase Death Metal came from. From the bands Death and Possessed. Songs like Zombie Ritual, Infernal Death, Scream Bloody Gore, Evil Dead, Open Casket, Death Metal etc. The genre was called Death Metal because of the lyrics. Hence Arch Enemy aren't Death Metal.

again, death had songs covering a wide range of topics. just because you have an opinion, doesnt make it universal truth. i did not start this thread to argue about this, i started it to discuss how much i love this band.

They are classed as Death Metal because a large portion of what they sing about is about the Book of the Dead and Death in Egyptian times. Egypt back in the times they were singing about were dark times. Hence why they get branched in Death Metal. Dying Fetus, Possessed, Death, Pestilence, Massacre, Carcass etc are all Death Metal because most of their songs were about the dead.

Death changed from being Death Metal and were a Technical Metal band after Spiritual Healing.

I've told you why they aren't classed as Death Metal so why do you think they are?

I think you'll find with research that Death Metal was formed because of the lyrical content.

I hate bands being categorised in the wrong areas because calling Arch Enemy a death metal band will keep lots away from listening to them. They are just a Heavy Metal Band or Extreme Metal Band. Death Metal they aint. It isn't my opinion it is from musical history.

i don't know if i would classic Arch Enemy as deathmetal but i also don't agree with OrganizedConfusions idea that death metal bands sing primarily about death. I classify death metal by mostly the Blastbeat drums, deep growling vocals and alot of tremelo picking and low drop tunings, i believe arch enemy are a little soft to be "Death Metal" but they do have very dark vocals which may make people think they are "death metal" I would classify Arch Enemy as a more " New Age Thrash" with bands like Shadows Fall, Trivium and Children of Bodom, or i would again classify them as a Melodic Death Metal or just a light Death Metal.

What? They are melodic death metal based on there MUSIC, not there lyrics.

That makes no sense at all, Death metal doesnt have to be about Death, thats crazy. And No, a large portion of Niles come from MANY books of Egyptian history and mythology, The book of the dead is just one.

It is FACT, that you dont have to sing about death to be called death metal, Arch Enemy IS melodic death metal, there is no changing it.

Death, well they have plenty songs about life, so because they sing about something else suddenly they aren't death metal? Death metal isnt a lyrical genre, its a musical genre, its classified based on its sound. Sure, the early death metal acts like Cannibal Corpse, Death and so on, has a large portion of songs abotu gore and death, but the genre evolved.

I'm sorry, im all for respecting opinions, but it is pure FACT that you can sing about anythign you want, and STILL be death metal, you dont have to sing about just death to be death metal, it makes no sense.

You would be classifying countless death metal bands as somethign else, Death didnt become technical metal, Thats not even a genre, its a description, every genre of metal has technical bands.

Absolutely Not

Music also evolves, and its exactly what you said.....HISTORY....Thats what it was, not what it is. The genre has evolved, plain and simple.
