Haven't done the research yet, but youtube's starting some kind of partnering program. Jack & Nataly talk about it just a little bit here:

Gonna go check out the url (http://youtube.com/MusiciansWanted supposedly)

Got some notes about the application. There's some requirements and suggestions made before you agree to the application step:

Thank you for your interest. Based on an automated review of your account it is unlikely that you will qualify for the YouTube Partner Program. Applications are reviewed for a variety of criteria, including but not limited to the size of your audience, country of residence, quality of content, and consistency with our Community Guidelines and Terms of Use.

You may still apply but please note there could be a significant delay in responding to your application. If your application is not approved, you will not be able to apply to the program again for 2 months. Thanks for your understanding.

Please note that YouTube Partner Program is for users who want to generate revenue from their existing audience. If you would like to increase your audience, we suggest that you consider using YouTube Promoted Videos program.

So, it's possible that those of us outside the US aren't eligible (yet?) for this program. Also those of us that hide our videos by leaving them untagged probably won't qualify as we have such low number of viewers. It appears to be a human review, so those of you that are awesome godlike instructors might have a better chance if the program survives and is opened to global markets?

That's all just my interpretation based on reading that note from youtube. Still, looks like an interesting program. Perhaps some folks with IP numbers in the US should give it a shot.

I'm in the US and got the same response. I've got 85 videos uploaded (none is original content though). I've only got 15 subscribers, that's probably the trigger for me.

Ah, yeah, I was unclear. I'm in the US as well, but the guys that tried from outside the US were redirected to the youtube home page and didn't get the "lol noob" response that you and I got smile.gif

I suspect that, if the program succeeds and thrives, it will open outside the US some time later.

But what's the point of that if you get approved? Is it like just for fun with some other youtube people?

Posted by: Adrian Figallo Mar 17 2010, 06:15 AM

hey emir, if you get approved and your videos are popular, you will earn a % of the advertisement they run wink.gif

That sounds interesting smile.gif I doubt I can get any $$$. My highest rated video is not yet 30.000 visits.

Yeah but Youtube partnership doesn't pay really well, basically what happens, they put commercials on the bottom of your videos, if somebody click on the commercial, you earn something like 10 cents (or even less, not sure about the number)
A cool feature is that you can put videos longer than 10 minutes, and you can add cool features to your youtube channel. Indeed, you need lots of subscribers, lots of views, you also need to put videos regulary on youtube.

I got one video that has over 80.000 views but still don't see this as good business opportunity smile.gif

Looks interesting!

I won't apply but this looks very interesting for those guys who have lots of views and subscribers to make some revenue too! smile.gif

Yeah, I got redirected to inndex, so it's just for the USA!
Recently there was competition for youtube orchestra, I hope there will be again!

Very interesting idea indeed, giving people money for their popular videos can definitely be a boost. I doubt they will reach to more people with low comissions tho wink.gif

Posted by: Daniel Realpe Mar 26 2010, 12:02 AM

I will check it out definitely, thanks!

Posted by: thefireball Mar 31 2010, 06:25 AM
