GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Slayer & Judas Priest At Roskilde

Posted by: Rooks Jul 6 2008, 08:41 PM

Hey GMC, I just wanted to share my state of awe with you

Today I watched Slayer live, and it was incredible! Like them or not the show was great.. Rarely I have experienced anything that heavy..

And yesterday I watched Judas Priest, on the very first row from the stage! I know swearing in here is prohibited,.. But this experience allmost calls for it .. It wasn't awesome .. that word doesn't cover it at all.. It was F..... insanely awesome.. And beyond ..

After the concert K.K Downing and Glenn Tipton flicked their picks off from the stage and I caught Glenn Tiptons pick! I still can't believe it ... Those men are the Gods of Metal and I got their pick ! The solos played with that pick im sure must have imbued it.. And I don't care how old they are they rocked ultimatively hard .. Pictures follows

The rest of the day yesterday I went around singing and humming "'Cause it's the pick, of Judas Priest child; And you know it will be rocking 'cause it's F...... insane" (Yeah i watched Pick of Destiny many times)

Say that im not the only person who thinks this is by far incredible and awesome?:

thats totally cool mate!!! you lucky guy lol! I`ve always watched the guitarists throw out their picks and drummers throw out their sticks and thinking how comes my seats always so far back!!! , the closest I`ve ever come was a drum stick landing a couple of rows in front of me and a whole heap of guys pouncing on it into a huge bundle on the floor laugh.gif

Would love to see Judas Priest live again, one of my favourites! they certainly rock!!

Congrats Man! wink.gif
Sounded like you got some motivation from that! Now use that for your playing and you'll advance in playing more confident with that pick....or at least i would anyway! laugh.gif tongue.gif

Posted by: Rooks Jul 7 2008, 10:39 AM

Well he is ^^ But he's still dope on a stage

Posted by: jacmoe Jul 7 2008, 04:11 PM

Wow, man! That's totally awesome! biggrin.gif

That Tiptons pick landed in the hand of a guitar player, how lucky is that? laugh.gif

Posted by: Rooks Jul 7 2008, 05:18 PM

I call it great motivation, I've never wanted to play guitar this much before laugh.gif

I have a guitar teacher once in a while.. He really gave a cool remark when I told him; "Great! Your career as a rockstar couldn't start much better" haha he's great.

Slayer was great. Now, people who know me will know I'm not a fan of their style of music. Judas Priest neither (but still have lots of respect for both of them). But I enjoyed that particular concert anyway -- can't say the same for Judas Priest, who really sounded tired and worn out.

All in all surprised with the relative quality of this year's lineup, despite Jay-Z and L.O.C. and a rather weak program. Not to pleased with the change in age and nationality spread (or lack thereof) that the line-up brought. Hope that will be better next year. smile.gif

And congrats about the pick! And no, you're not the only person who thinks this is incredible or awesome. Would love to catch a pick from a favorite band (says the giddy 30-year-old), although if I caught one from either of these, I guess I'd give it away to someone more fan-deserving than me (maybe to you tongue.gif)

Quite sure Neil Young could have thrown quite a few out -- give that man an electric guitar, and you can't stop him laugh.gif

-Well thats the reviewers opinions too wink.gif I don't think that KK or Glenn sound any better on any album than they did last week, It was awesome guitar playing..

Rob's voice is definately not what it used to be, but im not a pessimist or calculative when it comes to music. It was a great concert in my ears and I don't need to compare it or analyze it, thats not good spirit. He did sound different in his young days but I think it suits him too, to sound rusty.

Anyone not on the first row can't tell me anything about what kind of experience it was happy.gif
-No offense Kaneda, I just heard a lot from people who stood in the back and didn't like them anyway tongue.gif

Stop the analyzing and comparing ( It's heavy metal for gods sake )
Start nodding that head and throw up the fists for the metal

Hehe.
I've heard it the other way 'round. Well. Diversity is great. wink.gif

Nah, people must have confused 2008 with 2002, where Slayer did sound tired and worn out. Seemed rejuvenated this time around tongue.gif

It might be that, *gasp*, a reviewer actually expressed the general opinion! ohmy.gif wink.gif Nah, anyway, 90% of all concerts at Gree... er, Arena and Orange feel awesome in the pit, but that doesn't mean 90% of the bands play awesome concerts. The only true measure is your own reaction, which is as good as anyone's (or rather, better, since it's your own). smile.gif

I believe it's called "opinion"? And "different tastes"? smile.gif

I believe it's called "pessimisticly subjective inconsistent self-obligating esoteric expectations" ? smile.gif

-Of course you have the right to say its not your favorite, All im asking is to not go to the concert and say "I expected something different, ergo it was bad." "they did better concerts in the past" -might be! but does not make this one bad.. Maybe Rob cant get his voice as high as in the 80ies, but hell who cares. Enjoy the moment, and take from it what is there..

Quite an extrapolation from the 6 words I said about the concert. Who's analyzing now? smile.gif But whatever you say.

Which I never said.

Said none of that either. Please leave me out of your frustration with Soundvenue, Ekstrabladet, Politiken or whatever wink.gif

What I did say is, they sounded tired and worn out. This has nothing to do with Downing or Hill or Tipton's playing -- they all played tight. It hasn't got anything to do with Halford's voice (which was better than anyone could or should expect). It only has to do with energy.

They played great, but most of the audience didn't care, because the band didn't make them care until they were about to leave the stage. Or maybe the Roskilde crowd was too composed of hiphop fans (a trend that needs to stop soon, but that's a different story) -- might be, because no one in the audience on the field seemed to know any of their material other than Breaking the Law. Then again, I did, and yet got nothing out of the concert other than a display of instrument craftmanship without nerve that Yngwie would have been proud of.

If the concert was great in the pit, great. smile.gif But metal isn't made for playing in a tiny, smoky jazz club, so if you can't get your energy out from Orange any further than the first set of delay towers, the festival bookers might as well have put Teitur back on stage that Saturday. mellow.gif

Enough from me, because this is apparently off-topic smile.gif In any event, it's not leading anywhere.

Posted by: Rooks Jul 9 2008, 11:02 AM

Kaneda Your right, it doesn't really lead anywhere. But I just want to say im not frustrated with any reviewers, happy.gif They can't affect me to that point at all "or whatever"

Off topic or not, thanks for the discussion anyway. You do have some good points, but still I see it from another point of perspective. wink.gif

Both concerts ROCKED!
Had to leave Slayer after about 3/4 of the concert, but I can still feel the incredibly heavy double-pedal on my chest! laugh.gif

You just gotta love that motorbike Judas Priest brought on stage - awesomely old-school! laugh.gif

That stuff is SO cool, I agree. Nothing is more metal than driving a bike on the stage tongue.gif -Even Kaneda must think that is still cool after all these years..
