Hey guys, I'll be on the chat today, and will hold a video chat 4-5 PM (London time). If you care to join me to chat a bit, come on in!  For those of you who follow the video chats, here are couple of words for today's one: Last week, we concentrated on open string C major pattern:  and C major chord in the backing track. We also focused on strong notes, C major arpeggio:  And started to work on Am triad arpeggio too:  ________________________ For this chat, we will go one small (but important) step further. In this chat, we will connect these two chords/arpeggios, and work on 2 at a time. If you remember previous session, there was only one chord per backing. This time, there are two chords per backing: C - Am. both chords will be played for 4 bars each like this: |C///|C///|C///|C///| |Am///|Am///|Am///|Am///| on 120bpm tempo. We will focus on two scales this time, both share the same notes, first one is C major scale: second one is pentatonic scale:  I'll try to add some effects in the phrases, and explain structure of phrasing. So join me in half an hour!

Hey guys, another video chat lesson coming up today 4-5PM London time!
You can check out previous post on what we've been doing for last two weeks, and for this chat, we are again on topic of improvising! In the last chat, we used open string C major scale key position, and now we will go to 5th fret position. Most of you know this pattern by Am box 1. We will use another simplified version of this scale, called Am pentatonic box 1. Am scale - box 1  Am pentatonic scale - box 1  I will use this range of notes, like showed in the pattern to do the following: - Play some C major key chords (C , Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim) - Choose notes from these chords - Make simple call & response phrases on given patterns by using chordal and scale notes ___________ Other than that, we are free to discuss any other topic or question that occurs in the chat!

Hey guys, another video chat coming up today!
The main topic for today is chordal embelishments! What is this? Well it's closely related to the topic of improvising, and it concerns playing chords and playing scale notes with them in order to create various voicings. By practicing this you will create strong connection with the harmony, and become better with your lead work too. The key for today is again our good ol' friend C major:  And we will work on C major key chords: C Dm Em F G Am Bdim Get your axes ready, be ready to learn new licks! We will talk about lots of other things too, as always!

Hello everybody, today is time for another chat!
Main topic for today will be improvising, and we will continue to develop the concept further. I will specially pay attention to blues improvisations in the first two Am pentatonic positions:  Here's a blues scale, that is actually the same as Am pentatonic with the addition of a D# note:  And of course, since we will be playing over chords after all, and using the 12 bar blues progresion: | A | A | A | A | | D | D | A | A | | E | D | A | A | We will need to reference to these 3 arpeggios, and we will use dominant 7th arpeggios, since they are more easy to play:    We will in general analyze each of these patterns, and see what we can do with them in terms of playing the blues, and there are plenty of interesting tricks and licks I want to show you there, so join us today 4-5PM London Time! -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Sorry for the delay guys, here's an E blues backing track from the previous chat.
This track has 80bpm tempo and it is loopable, which means you can loop it in your player, or in your DAW to create bigger backing suitable for jamming. You can also loop individual chords and work only on what chord at a time (which I recommend as well). If you have any questions about practicing over this, let me know!

Today's topics will be: - How to use scales and modes, and over what chords - How to utilize arpeggios you know effectively in the song We are still in the key of C major, and here's the pattern we will use in the lesson: Also, make sure you all got 7 chords of the C major key worked out: C Dm Em F G Am Bdim Join us today for some creative stuff!
