Okay, so if your like me you know what a wiki is for and how the articles should generally go. But I am a little confused at the interface and how exactly I go about posting content into the wiki.
Can we get a quick tutorial on how to go about adding articles. Nothing major, just the basics.
Thanks!
Hardtail
Absolutely!
Give me a day or two though, I want to make sure everything is ready on Kris' end, then I'll wrote something up (and some posting guidelines too!)
Ok, we're up and running !
The link to the wiki is:
http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki (it still needs a bit of a makeover but it is in place and functioning well
Also, Maris has already written some quick start instructions here:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Help:Contents
Thanks a lot Maria!
That should get everyone started at least - take a look at the template articles and try and structure your articles in a similar way.
Lets see how it works out
Regards,
Andrew
Im kinda having a problem with this .I went to template, then when i click on general article template it just sends me here http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/GuitarWiki:Article_template and there is no options in top for edit. Also it's in a different language .Any help would be great as im ready to get started just have to get this ready
The "Templates..." in each category are generated by the wiki script whenever a link to a non-existing page is inserted. Here is an easy guide to getting your first article on the wiki.
1.) Go to the section where you want to put your article. (I went to "Gear" for this example)
2.) Up at the top you'll see an address like this "http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Portal:Gear".
3.) Type your article name after the address using /articlename. So I wanted to write an article and call it Tubes under the Gear section. So i typed it into my address bar and it looked like this: "http://guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Portal:Gear/Tubes". Then hit enter.
4.) If the article isn't already made you should get a message that says: "There is currently no text in this page, you can search for this page title in other pages or edit this page." Click the "search for this page title" link.
5.) You will then be taken to the Search engine within wiki and at the top you should see "Create this page" link . Click that then paste your article (may want to start with a template first).
That should get you started. If you need help getting the article to show up in the correct section let me know, I can help. See the Gear section for how I started laying it out as an example.
Hardtail
Wow Hardtail - thanks alot for the help!
Cool - I'll reference this post in the Wiki Guidelines when I write them up.
Regarding Portals - a portal is really just a category. I have discussed a structure with Kris which just consists of some high level concepts like Gear, GMC, Reviews etc - its a lot like the board structure in fact.
The portals are just starting points on the main page - the Wiki system is really cool, as it will create categories by itself once we get going with the content!
Hi Dan,
I tried to create the page for you as you asked, but I don;t seem to have permissions to edit or create any pages - Kris, could you maybe check this out? I can;t even edit the article I wrote a few months ago
Dan, if you follow my instructions above you should be fine BUT... you may want to copy a template first. To do this go to this link:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/GuitarWiki:Article_template
Click the VIEW SOURCE at the top of the screen. Then copy the entire contents of the source into your computers clipboard. (or just select it all and hit CTRL-C).
Then follow my instructions and when you get to step 5 click the "Create this page" link and then paste the template into the editor (CTRL-V or right click and select paste).
A lot of it is in script but if you keep previewing it you should be able to tell where different text is etc. Wiki editors really aren't that bad once you get working in them.
Hardtail
This is working for my test user and Hardtail - so Andrew it must be because you have special permissions as a moderator etc.
Have you tried with your testuser?
Either way I should have a solution for this coming up - I have just emailed Henrik.
kris
Hi Kris,
I followed Hardtails instructions but I went to create anew page and I got the error;
"The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups Members, Root Admin, Administrators, Wiki-sysops."
So im guessing I havent been added to the correct group yet !
Any update on this my good chums?
Oops I missed this sorry, - I hope Henrik can shed some light on this soon in this thread! ( For Henrik: Mattacuk's primary group is "GMC Senior" and his mask is "wiki writer").
Thanks kris !
