Posted by: Smells Jan 14 2008, 11:34 PM

All seems to be a little quiet here in the Acid Spill thread, is everyone all ok?

Hows it all going David?

Posted by: Smells Feb 2 2008, 08:19 PM

All yours Melvyn mate, smile.gif

post up your new band sigs, that`d be cool biggrin.gif

Posted by: Melvyn Feb 2 2008, 10:28 PM

Aha, right then, to get things rolling; Ive just taken over the role as leader for the virtual band 'Acid Spill', and theres a few things that need to be ironed out.

We currently consist of 4 members;
Myself, Deeproots, Steve25 and At Lights End, and so have no more spaces for members smile.gif

I want Acid Spill to continue being the Metal band it was originally, with some aesthetic nips and tucks here and there, but nothing too radical overall

To start with (without sounding pretentious), i'll post the band sigs i made for Myself, Toni and Alex to get the ball rolling!

I do hope i'll be able to get the band back up and running, and so will have a few recordings (both Cover and Original wink.gif) in the near future if all goes well!

Posted by: Smells Feb 2 2008, 10:29 PM

wow sweet sigs mate!!

Posted by: Melvyn Feb 2 2008, 10:31 PM

Yep- we were a member of the same organisation and also bumped into eachother at a Iron Maiden gig a while back. By coincidence we've met again at GMC!

So his town is a 20 minute train ride for me which is cool for me.

Yeah, i live in neath and Deep~ lives in bridgend, a few miles away tongue.gif

Im currently having PC troubles; vista wont allow me to record anything, so im changing to XP soon, but i can record in my college easily enough, thats where ive been doing my recording lately

well its up to you as"grand master leader guy" ; you seem to be into slightly heavier stuff than me, but that doesnt matter tongue.gif

I'm totally into Dream Theater so anything "doable" by them would be wicked.

Posted by: Melvyn Feb 4 2008, 02:34 PM

Haha im pretty open; im into dream theater in a big way though, so we better do some biggrin.gif

We could start off simple, maybe some 'Maiden or some of DT's simpler stuff such as Forsaken

Posted by: at lights end Feb 22 2008, 05:27 PM

i might be able to get a cheap one, i don't know how soon though as im in the process of building a guitar.

Posted by: Sami Feb 22 2008, 05:37 PM

Oh yeah and i forgot to say, i play guitar

Posted by: steve25 Feb 24 2008, 03:54 PM

I would talk to Melvyn as he's the band leader and see what he says about it smile.gif

Posted by: Melvyn Feb 25 2008, 06:49 PM

At lights end, if your interested in playing bass then we'd love to have you on board! i'll send you a pm asap

Posted by: at lights end Feb 25 2008, 10:33 PM

well i can't guarantee ill be able to buy a bass any time soon, im looking around for a cheap one, there seem to be quite a lot. but i also just started a guitar project and i still have about £418 to go till it's finished.

im not an amazing bassist, as im relying on my skills as a guitarist, but i've picked up friends' basses and i played a couple in a shop today, i picked it up quite fast, sitting in a corner playing bogdan's slap lesson.

well if someone else pops up, who actually owns a bass then id choose them over me.

Hi. I received messages from Deeproots and Steve25. Anyone else is still active and willing to make things happen rolleyes.gif ?

We agreed on recording Nothing Else Matters, Metallica. laugh.gif to get things moving.

We need Drums and Bass (likely programming them)
For voice we can arrange the melody to guitar if no one wants to sing ohmy.gif

Intro can be done with 1 guitar, easier with 2. (in the very end the second one enters anyway).
For, verses we need acoustic or a very clean guitar. Also we need a quiet distorted guitar to make the fills
Chorus we add a heavily distorted guitar.
The first solo needs 2 clean electric guitars (perfectly synchronized - if I am not mistaken they are playing the same stuff with fifths for some time).
Second solo needs full blown distortion + spatial effects + infinite sustain tongue.gif
All around there are a few synthesizer passages (such as before every chorus). We can do it in on guitar also.

So, how do you like to do it? We divide into very small pieces (and each person gets small pieces) or simply we divide it all around as we would play live (rhythm, lead, fills)?
I know to play most the stuff (including the solos), and I also have the songbook. So just let me know what you would like to do and I can try to go for the rest.

Posted by: steve25 Apr 1 2008, 05:41 PM

I don't mind what i do whichever you want me to do let me know

Posted by: Gus Apr 4 2008, 04:21 PM

Ok, so let's start the fun! laugh.gif

One of my main concerns is that we can do it in reasonable time (to keep ourselves motivated), so I will try to divide things so that we move quickly enough. If you want to change something from the division below just let me know.

I will record the whole rhythm part with acoustic guitar to serve as a basis for synchronization. I will add a few beats in the beginning, so do all your recordings by adding the same beat in the beginning so that we can synchronize it easily (without any latency).
Expect it on the upload topic this weekend.
Deeproots will start with programming the drums/bass. If you want you can also include the synthesizer parts (but if not we do them on guitar later). What do you think: should I record the rhythm on top of drums/bass or the opposite? Remember there is no drums on intro...
Steve, can you start by doing the intro?
Deeproots do you do the first solo after the programming part? There are actually 2 guitars there (so you can do either one or both , as you wish).
I will take the second solo because I already know it (unless one of you guys strongly want it, but be aware this may take some effort to learn, at least it did to me tongue.gif )

I want to let you guys work in your own pace wink.gif (which I don't know yet). So when you finish intro (Steve) or first solo (DeepRoots), you upload it and tell what you want to do next (or I can assign it).

By the way, can you sing steve? tongue.gif If not we have to do it instrumentally.

Posted by: Gus Apr 13 2008, 07:59 PM

Hey, guys. Sorry for not uploading yet.

I've been struggling a few days with a problem: my computer does not recognize my POD X3 live anymore...
I tried quite a few things to reinstall. I even brought a computer from work, to try it (and record) but I had no administrator rights and it did not work.

I will see if I find yet another computer where I can try it. I hope it is just software and not something with the POD itself...
Can you do the bass/drum meanwhile?

Posted by: steve25 Apr 13 2008, 11:40 PM

Hey no problem smile.gif. I've not played this song before so i've been working on the intro. I've almost got the first part down just go to make sure i can do it cleanly and everything. When are you wanting this done by?

Posted by: Gus Apr 14 2008, 12:48 AM

Well, we have to keep in mind that the sooner we do it, the sooner we get a forum board rolleyes.gif

I'll be working on it all of tonight then smile.gif

Posted by: steve25 Apr 24 2008, 08:31 PM

Hey guys just to let you know i haven't abandoned my part tongue.gif. It's been a hectic few weeks with college work and having a virus on my pc hasn't helped but it's coming along. Right now i've recorded the first part of the intro if that makes sense so that's ready to go now just need to record the second part on top of it as well as the background stuff so should be done very soon!

Posted by: Gus May 3 2008, 09:59 PM

Yesterday I left my POD X3 live on the dealer to be taken to repair...

Let's hope I get it back soon come back to recording...

I just had a small recording opportunity window, but I used it to record a instructor's lesson.

Posted by: steve25 May 4 2008, 08:46 PM

Hey Steve. I guess it's me, you and DeepRoots . I talked to him on MSN.
I am writing my M.Sc thesis now and he is also a little busy. So we set the target to do the first steps within 2 weeks, which should be exactly when I will have more time to do it (and hopefully my POD will be here... rolleyes.gif )
He will post the backing track, and then I record the rhythm over it.

Posted by: steve25 May 8 2008, 10:26 PM

Cool i'm sure you'll like your POD i'm using one at the moment. Well don;t worry because to say the least the intro is causing me a lot of problems because i can't finger pick to save my life tongue.gif

ohmy.gif That's really hard without finger picking... or at least chicken picking.

If you really can't do it, I can do the base part with finger picking and you add the melody part on top . But better if you try it wink.gif

Ah yeah what i mean is i am doing fingerpicking to play this but because i'm not good at it it's taking me a bit longer tongue.gif. I'm playing both the bass and melody for it on guitar if you get what i mean.

Posted by: Gus Jun 24 2008, 05:21 PM

Hey guys. Sorry for the long delay on this.

When I decided to join the virtual band, I had no idea I would be such a long time without recording equipment. I am really sorry about that, because I wanted to make things to move on. Finally, one week ago my POD is back (I even posted that on my practice agenda, because I was really happy to have it back! tongue.gif )

Do you guys have time to record the stuff we agreed now? I will travel on 3rd of July, so at least my part will be ready by the weekend.

Posted by: skennington Jun 25 2008, 08:19 PM

Glad to see you guys are back at this one. smile.gif Can't wait to hear the finished product. Gus, you still going to try an "In the Style of JH" SI lesson? Think it would be cool man!

Yep, I will have to agree with steve25. sad.gif

When I joined it I really had good intentions, but then everything seems to be on the way and this became last priority. So maybe it would be better if we just disband it, and the ones interested in trying something else join another band... dry.gif
