GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ How To Play This? [jawbreaker By Judas Priest]

Posted by: Skalde Jul 5 2008, 01:59 PM

Hello,

at the moment, I am learning http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=XEGO08P_ufQ, it does not sound very hard and seems to be a good song for beginners.
However, as I tried to play it, I encounterd a problem.
Normally, I play those rhytm pattern with downstrokes only, but in this song I need to play it at ~200bpm which is (for me) pretty fast for downstrokes only.
As I tried to do it with alternate picking, I could not find a good picking pattern.
How would you play this?
only downstrokes, strict alternate picking, or an other picking pattern?
thanks for your help,

I would play it with alternate picking but get used to doing it slowly and you'll find it easier when you try and do it full speed again.

Yeah, Alternate picking. Since its in eighth notes (1+2+3+4+) You'd play a downstroke on the Beat, and an up on the +.
Thats what I would do, You're not going to get up to 200bpm with constant down picking.

no i'd do that downstrokes. it'd sound better imo. bit of practise and 200 will be fine.

Downstrokes for sure!

definitely down strokes
If you listen closely you will notice that both Glen And K.K use this picking technique. Try it slowly at first and you:ll see thats it ain't difficult. I suggest don't even bother to use a metronome

Donwstrokes or even economy could do the trick

Rhythm stuff like this I play always with downstrokes. It´s a bit tricky to do is fast. biggrin.gif

You can do both, but downstrokes will sound the best.

exactly downstrokes will give you that little + on the sound of the riff as I believe also that these kind of rythms are pretty much always played with downstrokes.

Definetly downstrokes. It will sound more tight

i think downstrokes would be the way to go

I think either is fine. Down strokes will sound more tight if you can keep up the pace. Alternate is also fine since the double stops come on a downstroke so they will sound good, easier to manage if 200 bpm is too fast for all downstrokes.

Keep the power chord fingering all the time, no need to be lifiting fingers if that's what you do between the A and G+D string.

I know there is no need to lift fingers, thanks for all the replies. I think I will practice it with downstrokes only for a while, its a good practice anyway.
But for all that I assume it will take some time till I nail it on 200bpm.

best regards,
Skalde

I'd do downstrokes, its easier plus it gives a better sound.
