Hey guys! When somebody says 60's we say Beatles, Rolling Stones, and The Who, then he says 70's and we say Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Hendrix. If he asks about the 80's we say Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Motley Crue, and then he asks about 90's and we say Gun's & Roses, Nirvana, Green Day, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Korn, and so...
What should we say if he asks for the 2000's?
I have to say I think "Time Will Tell", we are still so close to it that the bands who resonate now may fade a bit (maybe not though) and we might look back and go "Whatever happened to......" Music, like wine needs time to sink in and become part of the culture. Thinking back a bit about 80s Music/Metal, some bands that sold tons of records, and seemed quite relevant, now seem like a bad joke while other bands are still taken seriously. It's tough to say who the bands of the Era of the early 2k years will be but we have some great thoughts on it in this thread.
I have to agree with the choices here. Some great picks. Before about 2k I was really against heavy bands that had female lead singers which now seems just plain stupid. Bands like Epica and Lacuna Coil and Arch Enemy changed all that, so for me 2k.1 through 2k.10 are about opening my ears up to gals rocking people's faces off. Looking back I can't believe I was ever that closed minded. Just silly. Chix can RAWK!
