GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Message from Kris - WE'RE BACK UP!! :)

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 24 2006, 09:11 AM

Hi there! smile.gif

Can't tell you how glad I am to be up again! biggrin.gif

Things will look a little different at the forum, one main thing is that very few will get access to the forum. Only the ones who sign up for masterclass.

It seems many of the forum regulars have already signed up for the Masterclass.

Once the forum gets going we will have some rules and maybe new boards.

From now on my new lessons will only appear in the masterclass.

See ya soon!

Glad your back Kris, However this forum is really slow! dunno if its my connection but i dont htink it is, 3mg line im on!

Whats going on with freelicks forum? why is it now only for masterclass users? as im not sure if i will always sign up to the masterclass as iv not used it to its full potentual. Im dissapointed to here we wont see any more of your lessons on the free site. I still wish you the best of luck with it all of couse. my guitar playing has gone down hill the last 2 months im just stuck in a rut and dont know what to play anymore, im just doing the same old things.!

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 24 2006, 10:49 AM

Hi Bollyrotten glad to see you!

Sad to hear your playing is going "down hill" - sound like you need some inspiration maybe? Maybe attack some new material?

You will only have access to the forum when being signed up to the masterclass. As the masterclass grows you will hopefully want to be signed up the whole time! smile.gif

I hope to get some easier material up also ( I am working on some). There will most likely be some cool slash stuff for you to spice up your improvisations with, in the nextcoming lesson (i hope it will be up today)

cheerz!

/Kris

sounds good Kris,

Yeah playing has let me down. i just seem to endless be stuck in pentetonic scale improvisations. Tunes iv learnt dont seem to sound to good. But i like to just put a backin track on and play anything along with it. My problem at the moment is that i just cant seem to make anything sound interesting. same riffs same notes same sort of rythems!
I think im in need of your help lol just some insparation should be enough to get me going. know any nice quite easy rock rythem tracks, not nirvana some airosmith or blues rock

If you play the same thing over and over a new backing is not the solution.

You need to try some solo/lick that feels very UNnatural for you - and practice hard with it!!

Posted by: BollyRotten Apr 24 2006, 11:06 AM

any ideas?? sad.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 24 2006, 11:25 AM

Yes! All the things you have been avoiding until now! You should pick something you have been avoiding because it has felt hard - and learn it right away.

Don't worry, this kind of "crisis" is what make you progress. smile.gif

Posted by: BollyRotten Apr 24 2006, 12:21 PM

Cheers again Kris.

I think i will start work on your DVD's again. Seems to always help me + I still havent finished the second one!! how slow am i lol. Im sure what i need is to play / practise with other people. I can learn far quicker that way, trouble is i only know 1 other guitar player now. and he's my tutor!
Thanks again for all your help. the up and coming masterclass lesson sounds very interesting and may be up my street biggrin.gif

Nice to see that the forum is back up again!

Posted by: rhys Apr 24 2006, 08:47 PM

Why is it that only paid users can access something as simple and effortless as the forum?

Wellcome to the Masterclass forum rhys! smile.gif

Your question is motivated - the reason the forum now is contained within the Masterclass is:

1) The previous open forum suffered hacker attacks
2) The over-all quality of the posts had become very low
3) The most important reason: Because of the massive numbers of posts I had no chance of keeping myself updated and help people out - I think it's only fair that people who pay get more help from the instructor!

cheers

/Kris

ps I have removed your links in the signature - when we get to know you more you are free to introduce your sites to us!

Posted by: Anonymous Apr 24 2006, 09:51 PM

So the only way people will be able to get in here is to pay for masterclass?

EDIT: KRIS, Its me VIRUS from the board, i was wondering if you could change my username to the old one that i had on the other board " VIRUS "? I had to type this one out, because i dident know that we were supposed to sign up for masterclass with our old forum usernames.

Posted by: VIRUS Apr 24 2006, 09:55 PM

Sorry about that post. ^ I dident know that we could log in to our old names from this forum. I got it all worked out now.

Also, are there gonna be other forum parts added to this forum (Example: Request a song, or off topic? ) smile.gif

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 25 2006, 06:40 AM

Wellcome to the forum FourTwenty:D , glad you decided to sign up (we all share the same addiction!).

VIRUS: Wellcome you too, yes people have to pay to sign up for masterclass - I am quite sure we will have more board as things get going!

its great to be back, and I'm not sure if i read correctly but i think someone wrote that kris wont be making anymore lessons that are free? So i'm guessing that from now on all the free lessons will be guest lessons?

Wellcome back Rob biggrin.gif , yes the upcoming free lessons will rely on guest submissions. However, there are substantial costs involved in having a big site made out of video files. So unfortunately the future of freelicks is not in the free section.

All the free videos will however remain, which still makes it the largest free video lesson site (to my knowledge).

On a second thought, I might do more free lessons, but not as often. Main focus will be here. Now I'm off to do some johnsonisms. wink.gif

great to see the forum is back up

i'm not really sure about my playing, lately i havnt been playing as much, my improvisation has improved alot, but recently i've just been stuck in a rut as well

i havn't really been "practicing" like i should either, but for some reason or another, my playing has become a bit faster/cleaner the past month or so. I'd probably attribute that to improving, and running through scales all the time

Posted by: Tank Apr 28 2006, 01:04 PM

Hiya Kris,

Been gigging quite a bit. Practising a lot at the moment, I'm attempting to write 200 original licks, so I've got an extra hour a day practise developing that. Other than that, we're moving house soon, so we've been packing all the kids stuff away.

T

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 28 2006, 04:42 PM

What's with the 200 licks? :shock

QUOTE (Kristofer Dahl)

I've just decided that if I want to really improvise on stage, I need to stop bouncing up and down the pentatonics and 3nps scales like a wounded mouse, and write some licks specific to each area i.e. over maj7th, minor-add6. So I spend one or two days on each and write as many licks only using the notes I've restricted myself to for that day. Arpeggios, difficult fingerings are all in. It's an interesting experiment.

Hope it bloody well works!!!!!!

Sounds like a very smart thing to do - make sure you dont put them down until you really can improvise around with them.

Posted by: VIRUS Apr 29 2006, 01:31 AM

Hey kris, i think you should put the link to this forum in the main page of the site, so we can get in here easier and faster.

Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Apr 29 2006, 12:15 PM

Yes I will soon make the forum link active! smile.gif

So are you still going to make solos, songs, and licks of other artists? for free? Or are you just going to focus on masterclass?

Hey guys, it's good to be back. Lately I've been trying to get my band together and finishing school work n' what not. Not as much time to really practice hard but I'm going to get back into it.
